It is true that such nonmaintream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits play a key role in society by gratifying human psychological needs, which mainstream science can not address. However, overestimating the significance of such nonmaintream areas will give rise to a certain detriment to both individual and society as well.
