In order for any work of art—whether film, literature, sculpture, or a song—to have merit, it must be understandable to most people.

In today's world, art is attracting our eyes more and more, and it has already became the symbol of literal and noble. There is one saying that any work of art must be understood by most people, this sentiments ,though sounds eloquent, are teemed with pitfalls in various aspects.

Firstly, what are the fundamental task and ultimate goal of art? Is it merely cater to the massive public? To my understanding, art is different from science featured with its own characteristic. On one hand, It is the very way for the artists to express their personal opinions ,for example, Shakespeare tell us his understandings about love  by the dialogue between Romeo and Juliet; Wortzs worth showed us his ideal life by the gentle novel ' i walk like a cloud in the Sky '; Picusso display his anger to the catastrophe brought by war by the terrified faces in the picture ..... all are the sincerely and nature spill of emotion and sentiment .On the other hand, art ,no matter what form it is, bear the  fundamental task to arouse the common census as well as feeling of the human being and share such feeling with the artists-----only by this means ,such kind of art can  live up for its name. Because although we came from distinctive countries ,speak various languages and grow up in various culture background, we can share the same emotion in the night of evolving from the same ancestor.

To this degree, there is no doubt that art need to be accepted and understood by the spectators or readers. And the public are the largest group. Take the art of music as an example, as we know the most popular songs are those which can be sang by most of the people, they do no require very professional skills or ask for especial technology support ,most of them are the reflection of people's daily life and work so that they can remind the listener's sentimental motions during their  own life and work. Such kind of music work is not the 'dead' but a  penetrating reappearance for the society. As one preeminent writer once said ,'novel should be like a mirror walking on the street.' If the art lose its specter ,it is by no means a success one.

However, we should not judge a art work merely by the popularity among the majority .Being limited in the education, view  horizon, experience and culture awareness, there are deluge of art  which are beyond the acceptation of the massive public. For example, I believe that the popular music fans are much  more than the symphony lovers ,can you fly to the flagrant conclusion that symphony carrying less art value than those popular songs? Moreover, it takes time for the public to receive the noble art ,the found of Sydney Opera House in Australia , the Afill Steel Tower in France ,the J&K Memmorial  in the U.S are all the very examples, which were blamed  a lot when they are first showed in the public, nevertheless, time is the best judge and can offer them what they deserve at last.

In sum,  when the facts are examined and biased opinions cast away, it is not difficult to come to the assertion that ,art is far from cater to the public, art ,as the quintessence of the whole human beings should be independent from the mandan world ,and express the artists ' thoughts ,ideas ,feelings freely and naturally.
