The speaker suggests that political decisions and activities affect all aspect of people’s lives. In this regard, some people assert that people’s lives are determined largely by policies of the government, whereas others consider that political decisions can’t decide the dribs and drabs of people’s lives, everyone has his own life-style. In my opinion, however, I agree with the speaker’s view to some extent, because a nation’s political programs decide the direction of its social development, thus affect its people’s lives on the whole. However, everybody has their distinctive lifeways and interests which are decided by their inner characters, not political decisions. So, there is not a universal conclusion to this topic, we should consider it on a case-by-case basis. In the following analysis, I would like to reason and provide facts to substantiate my standpoint.
In the first place, there is no denying the fact that a country’s economic policies play a vital role in the economic progress, thus decide most aspect of people’s everyday lives. For instance, the reform and open policy, which was presented by the famous leader-Deng Xiaoping, has brought us Chinese people a rich and colorful life. Another important policy of China is “one country, two systems”. As a developing country, it’s necessary for us to make a steady progress of our nation, so it is vital to have a smooth transition of Hongkong and Macao. This policy has proved most suitable for the current situation of China, and people’s quality of life has improved as a matter of fact.
In addition, different regimes cause different socio-economic status. For example, in capitalistic countries, there is a widening gap between the rich and the poor, because the bourgeois squeezes money out from the proletariate. Correspondingly, in socialistic countries, this gap is relative small while the economic progress is slow. Accordingly, the influence of policies on people’s everyday lives could be very great.
Admittedly, people’s everyday lives were largely determined by their characters and favors, because different individualities lead to different attitudes, thus result in different life-styles of people. For example, once upon a time there were two girls wandering in a rose garden, one said sadly that ”It’s an undesirable place, because there is a thorn under every rose”, however, the other one said happily that ”It’s a wonderful place because there is a rose above every thorn”. From the story, we may reasonable to consider that the second girl has a relative affirmative outlook on life, thereby when face to troubles, she might be more tough than the first one, and their different qualities induce different manners of living. Consequently, people’s inward nature could partly decide the life-style.
To sum up, due to the above mentioned reasons and facts, we may comfortable to conclude that political decisions and actions do affect some aspects of people’s lives in great part. Nevertheless, people’s internal qualities and philosophies of life decide their distinct lifeways and habits. Therefore, we should consider this issue on a case-by-case analysis, any extremely affirmative or negative attitude is improper.
