A    new study collected data that shows that people who snore are more likely to gain weight than are people who do not snore. It is well known that many people who snore also stop breathing frequently during the night for a few seconds, a condition called sleep apnea. The interruption of breathing wakes the person—often so briefly that the waking goes unnoticed—and can leave the person too tired during the day to exercise. Anyone who snores, therefore, should try to eat less than the average person and to exercise more.

This argument recommends that people who snore should try to eat less than average person and to exercise more. However, both the cited study and the so-called well known information on snoring lends little meaningful support to his/her recommendation.

To begin with, there is no information about the inherent differences, dietary habits, or exercise amounts about (of) the people in the study. If people who snore eat a large amount of greasy food, or food that is high in fat and cholesterol, then they are more likely to gain weight than people who have more healthy eating habits. Nor we are told whether the people who do not snore do more exercise, such as everyday jogging, or attending health-related programs, while their counterparts do not. Given these scenarios, the different possibilities of gaining weight between two groups of  people  may have little relationship with whether they snore or not.

Another problem is that the arguer fails to consider and rule out other reasons that may account for the tiredness of people who snore. Perhaps their fatigue comes from the high pressure of the rapid pace of life and the severe competition in their daily work or study. Or perhaps they devote much time and energy to physical exercise trying to lose weight. Since the interruption of breathing is often brief, the arguer cannot assume it to be the very explanation, or the only factor, for the tiredness of people who snore.

Third, no evidence is offered in this argument that people who snore do no exercise. For the arguer's recommendation to be persuasive, he/she must convince us that snoring people in fact do little exercise-perhaps by a statistically and methodologically significant survey of snoring people nationwide. If the result of the survey turns to be the opposite of what the arguer claims, then we should not take the recommendation seriously.

Finally, even if we concede that people who snore should take above average amount of exercise, there is no reason why it is advisable for them to eat less. It they eat food that is less in amount but high in calories, such as popcorns, chocolate bars, will they lose weight as they wish? Also possible is that they suffer from malnutrition when they eat far less than the average.

In conclusion, more details are needed about the study and its subjects to make the recommendation meaningful.

[A new study collected data that shows that people who snore are more likely to gain weight than are people who do not snore.] It is well known that many people who snore also stop breathing frequently during the night for a few seconds, a condition called sleep apnea. 没有证据证明打鼾的人会如此疲惫,"It is well know"不足必然得出如此结论,即使大鼾的人会很疲惫,也不能得出"too...to exercise"
