Even the greatest people had inevitably made mistakes. Generally speaking, committing mistakes is an inescapable experience on one's way to success. I agree that through mistakes flaws can be found in one’s method or direction, which may exist already but will not show themselves automatically. Thus we can learn a lot from mistakes and make progress.

It should firstly be pointed out that mistakes can help people to make progress. Have you ever driven on the high ways? Often several turnings come after miles of straight road. At first, one might be very confused that why should there be turnings since it is not necessary and a cost of money. However, after learning the designer’s intent, one can not helping exclaiming how careful the road is designed and how deliberate those designers are. They design the turnings only on the purpose of hinting drivers: Be careful! There are not always straight road before you. The process of life is just like driving on the road. Not committing mistakes, one is well likely to be too vain of oneself and too careless to pay attention whether there is something wrong in the process. Hence, a big mistake may come when one is conceiving of a nearby success. To some extent, not only will mistakes never prevent us from success, but also they are indispensable factors on one's way to success.

Nevertheless, mistakes can not automatically lead to success. One must analysis carefully why he encounters failure, and what those mistakes suggest. Usually, by analysis, one can discover his shortages or wrongdoings in methods or direction or other aspects. Finally, further action is needed to rectify those mistakes to make progress. Here I'd like to cite a little example from my own experience. One afternoon, I return home crying for I had just quarreled with one of my classmate, without blaming me, my mother encouraged me instead: "It is not your fault. Try to do it in another way, and your little friend may like you next time." Then, she helped me to analysis why my friend was angry with me and how I can improve our relationship by rectifying my attitudes and behavior. Thus, I learned from my mistakes and finally regain the friendship with my classmate. What’s important is that never ignore one mistake, no matter how trivial it may be, for it is valuable for one to learn much from it.

Moreover, one should also face mistakes with positive and optimistic attitudes. Only the most fortunate ones can achieve success without committing any mistakes, however, it is not the case for most of common people. In this sense, mistakes are stones that can not be eliminated on one's road towards achievements. As a wiser has commented, hardship, here, I change which to mistakes, for someone, it is ultimate failure, but for some strong-minded people it is a basis to success. One should not be discouraged or even defeated by one mistake, nor should parents blame their children for their wrongdoings.
