94. "Universities should require every student to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study because acquiring knowledge of various academic disciplines is the best way to become truly educated."
I strongly agree with the speaker’s statement that universities should require students to take a variety of course (这个词组好像过了)far beyond their compulsory knowledge, it is not only the best way to become truly educated, but also the superior way to become wholly prepared for their future employment.
Be providing (Being provided)a lot of course the students can observe and discover their potential gift(潜力也不是这样说的). In today’s college and university, the students are confined in a cabined academic discipline. The common and compulsory courses are definitely the same, such as mathematics, statistics, and followed by their specified professional courses. The universities always ignores to (fail to)taka into account for (去掉)other courses such as music, law, economic, and so on(such as 和so on 不能同时使用的拉,that other courses such as musics, law, economics also play an important in their curriculum). May be some one will argue that the college students should be specified in their own academic field and should not be interested in other disciplines. However, I will point out that even though the students have chosen their interested field, they may have not discovered their real potential gift. For instance, Copernicus, a great Poland astronomer, entered a medicine(medical) college when he was 18 years old(去掉). However, after entered the college, he became much more interested in astronomy, finally he made the “Copernicus Theory” and based the foundation of the astronomy. From this fact we know that the some students cannot find their potential gift (这个词用太多了,改成direction或 orientation)even though they have entered a college. Therefore, for the sake of building more gifted students(^^||改), the college and university should provide more various (我喜欢comprehensive)courses to the students.
Furthermore, providing various courses should help the students in their respective academic research. Experiences tell me that some of the disciplines have academic(inner) relationships. Knowledge in one field may help the comprehension and the acquirement of other knowledge(Knowledge in one field may need the help of other field's comprehension and accomplishment). For example, if a archeologist studies(reconstruct) a(an) ancient object or historical site, in order to deeply research the objects(错,意思明白,表达不行自己改吧), besides knowing the archeological knowledge, the archeologist should also know some historical knowledge in that with the historical knowledge, the archeologist can deduce how long the site has been? What period it was? Another one, if a biologist is researching some cells, such as the clone technique, he or she must seize some chemical knowledge in order to research(analyse) the component of the cell or the specimen. Without the knowledge covering other field, it is hard for a researcher to attain any achievement. (文字上要动点手术,不然没有文采,不会太直接吧)
Additionally, a wide scope of knowledge is the basic requirement of the market employments. (我改我改我改改改 A proper study of broad study does not occupy student's too much time. In fact, it is unhealthy for them to spend all their time on their specific study.或者broad study may put them in a favorable position in future job markets.)In nowadays(去掉In ,nowadays 是副词), companies which is only specified in one field such as telecommunication requires the employees to be a wide scope known people since they thinks these kind of employees should be more proficient and devoted to their company and be more responsible for their job. It is reasonable to adopt such a high-standard policy in that every want to be success(看不懂) in the market competition, the employees are their power, a wide scope power means a high winning possibility.
In sum, many respects of need suggests that as a college who wants to become a elite in the society, he or she (主语是college?)must prepare himself with various of(of不用) knowledge, and therefore, the universities should provide various courses outside the student’s field of study to build a all-rounded (这词我也没看到过,不知道对不对)elite for the society. |
