It is primarily through formal education that a culture tries to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears.
------正文------
Every nation is trying to promote its own culture by perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears. There are many methods for the promotion, one of which is through formal education. But whether the formal education is the primary means to perpetuate culture? I think not, at least not always.
Formal education plays the primary role when people are young. Children always contact little with the outside world except their families and schools, in this circumstance, formal education is almost the only way for kids to get knowledge besides the education from their parents. As a child, people almost completely believe in teachers and parents along with the knowledge from them. And knowledge acquired as a pupil is often extremely impressed in one's life time. If we can fully take advantage of formal education towards children and teach them as many cultural ideas as possible, it will be very useful to perpetuate our culture from generation to generation. For example, almost every nation sets history as one of the basic courses, because history can show the pupil what achievements the nation have got in history, what the nation are proud of and some origins of the culture. These will establish national obligation and pride in children's mind and also gradually perpetuate the culture.
However, Formal education plays less important roles with the growing of people. Nowadays, we can not only get knowledge from formal education at school but also from contemporary media, like TV, movie, radio and internet. We can conveniently contact with this media and get the information we want. The advertisements, TV shows, movies, entertainment programs and sports through the contemporary media have extremely changed our lives and promoted culture to the nation and even the whole world.  A case in point is the great effects of Olympic Games, the contemporary Olympic Games, which was generated from Athens nearly a hundred years ago, is not only a ceremony of sports but also a ceremony of culture. Every four years the host nation will acquire not only great economic benefits, but also a great chance to spread her culture to the whole world. The Olympic Games are so appealing that billions of sports fans will watch the game and buy souvenirs, at the same time, culture of the host nation will be spread to other nations. This promotion of culture is more effective and appealing than formal education.
Admittedly, formal education is indispensable at any time, even when we are intelligent enough to continue study in college. But at that time, the most import role that formal education plays is to teach college students technology and science rather than cultural ideas. Less courses about culture than that about science, law, and managements are carried out in colleges, especially in science and technology institute.
In summary, I believe that formal education is an indispensable method to promote culture and formal education even plays primary role in some cases. But culture will also try to perpetuate its favorite ideas by other methods, like through contemporary media. And these media may play more significant role than formal education does in more situations.

Issue104 第2篇

It is primarily through formal education that a culture tries to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears.
------正文------
Every nation is trying to promote its own culture by perpetuate (perpetuating) the ideas it favors and discredit (discrediting) the ideas it fears. There are many methods for the promotion, one of which is through formal education. But whether the formal education is the primary means to perpetuate culture? (这具有语法问题,is the formal education the primary means to perpetuate culture) I think not, at least not always.

For example, almost every nation sets history as one of the basic courses, because history can show the pupil what achievements the nation have (has) got in history, what the nation are proud of and some origins of the culture.

A case in point is the great effects of Olympic Games, the contemporary Olympic Games, which was generated from Athens nearly a hundred years ago, is not only a ceremony of sports but also a ceremony of culture (cultures) . ( 个人认为TS与论证的内容关联不大,此段说的是其他一些因素对文化传播的影响,并没有和教育做对比,也没有论及到the growing of people,举的例子很好)

Admittedly, formal education is indispensable at any time, even when we are intelligent enough to continue study in college. (???这一句有点没看懂,formal education 也包括study in college阿) But at that time, the most import role that formal education plays is to teach college students technology and science rather than cultural ideas. Less courses about culture than that about science, law, and managements are carried out in colleges, (好像应该这样说Less courses about culture are carried out than that about science, law and managements in college.)especially in science and technology institute.(这一段好像有点问题, 后面的论证和主题句没什么联系,而且这一段的选择的论点个人觉得不是很成功)
In summary, I believe that formal education is an indispensable method to promote culture and formal education even plays primary role in some cases. But culture will also try to perpetuate its favorite ideas by other methods, like through contemporary media. And these media may play more significant role than formal education does in more situations.

Every nation is trying to perpetuate it's own culture from generation to generation and at the same time promote culture to other nations through formal education and other methods. I believe that with the development of science and technology, we can perpetuate our culture through many convenient methods besides formal education, and the influence of other methods makes the formal education play less significant role.
Formal education play important roles in perpetuating ideas it favors. Take myself for example, as a pupil, I went to school everyday, showed great honor to my teachers, believed in every word they said and inclined to remember their sentences. Because the appropriate TV programmers for us to watch were too limited, the best way to get knowledge besides receiving education from my parents is through the education in school. In this circumstance, owing to our unconditional acceptation of knowledge form school education, formal education played the most significant role in perpetuating the culture's favorite ideas by infusing us the distillation of culture. And I believe that the formal education today infuse pupils with culture's ideas alike.
A culture also uses other methods to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears. Government can program a serial of historical short movies and play them on television, people will clearly known about their history by watching these movies, and these movies are more impressive and interesting than history books. TV programs can also be made use of, for example, competitions about traditional cultures can be carried out in TV programs. Not only the participants but also the audiences will greatly benefit through such programs. More attractive methods can be used to perpetuate ideas that culture favors and discredit the ideas it fears.
The use of other promoting methods, like advertisements, TV program, movies, music and sports are gradually playing a predominant role. These methods can promote cultures more efficiently and rapidly, take advertisements for example. Countless advertisements are pouring into our lives nowadays, advertisements can be found in TV programs, movies, ball court, and both sides of streets. These advertisements are promoting services and products of companies, at the same time, can be used to promote their own cultures. Demos, especially the young, are gradually influenced by these advertisements appeared in our daily lives. The youth are inclined to take fast foods from McDonald's rather than more healthy traditional foods. Another example, through which culture will be effectively promoted, is the Olympic Games. The contemporary Olympic Games, which was developed by the Greece, becomes not only the ceremony of sports but also ceremony of culture. Every four years, the host country of Olympic Games can not only receive great economic benefits but also spreads her culture to the whole world by broadcasting games and selling souvenirs to billions of people concentrating on the Olympic Games. Spread of culture in this way is much rapid and wide-spread than through formal education.
In summary, the statement is fundamentally correct that formal education play important roles in perpetuate culture's idea. However there are also many other methods to promote culture, and with the help of advanced technology these methods
are playing more and more important roles in perpetuate culture's favorite ideas.
