70.In any profession—business, politics, education, government—those in power should step down after five years. The surest path to success for any enterprise is revitalization through new leadership.
In many countries, an election of president will be held every several years
because people hope that in virtue of the election, the new leader will bring
them good policies to bring more profits and improve the country's
development. I strongly agree that the leaders whose in power should step down after some years--absolute power leads absolute corruption. However, it is
not fit for any profession, especially for business.
In the first place, when leaders have no fear of losing their power, they tend to abuse their power. Human is not perfect and so is the leader. Every leader
has own desires, interests and dreams. When a leader pay more attention on
personal desires, he or she will lose his or her belief to make benefits to
people, at that time, he or she will not think about anything except personal benefits. Certainly, people do not allow him or her to continue to hold the
position, he or she will be abdicate his power compelled. For example, Saddam
Hussein, the president of Iraq, make many mistakes in his reign including
abusing his power for personal profits, oppressing his people without mercy,
having war with other countries. Finally, with the help of other countries,
the Iraq people overset his dominion. So the best way to solve these problems
about power and corruption is revitalization through new leadership.
In the second place, a new leadership usually has greater initiative and would bring in new ideas. There is an old adage in China," new official has three
firebrands." It means that a new leader has new decision and policy when he
take a post. Because every leader has different ideas, the effects he brings
to people are also different. For example, when Clinton takes the position of
the president, he inclined to improve the country's economy and make more
profits to people while Bush take the position, he would like to produce war
with other countries. So we can see the different results in their reigns:
Clinton improve the level of economy and make more profits to people, even in
his reign, the finance deficit of U.S.A has disappeared, but Bush brings more
calamities to both other countries' people like Iraq and native people such as 911. Therefore, it will exhibit different effects when dissimilar leaders are
in reign.
However, in private areas such as business, it might not be so necessary to
limit the term of leadership. Because all of the property belongs to
individual, the leader can not send the property to other strange people, so,
in most private companies, the position of leadership is hereditary. Moreover, in order to cherish the fruits they created and maintain the flourish of whole family, these leaders can only choose their progenitures to inherit the
property rather than a stranger.
In sum, from what has been discussed above, we may draw the conclusion that
the best way to success for some enterprises and countries is revitalization
through new leadership. we must remember that absolute power leads absolute
corruption, in order to prevent and reduce the phenomena of corruption, we can utilize this method. |
