The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, but by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten.
------正文------
History is the ethic of our human. It has embraced with a myriad of events and people. When it comes to who should be recorded, different persons will have diverse opinions. Some hold that the most significant events and trends in history were made possible by famous few but others maintain that these achievements were made by the groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten and we had placed too much emphasis on individuals. As far as this matter is concerned, personally, I believe that it is the general people who make the history and the great persons in the history are a number of these people. Though they had given a lot of enormous contributions, they are still not the mainstream of history. What is the most important are the common people in the history.

Firstly, it is the common people who had pushed forward the wheel of the history and culture. A plethora of history events are under the will and strength of people. Considering the social changes and social evolutions, we can hardly survive and progress without the common people. In the ancient history, the slavery can not hold on with the depression and frustration of the slave owners and they get up to counteract. This induced to the establishment of a new society. The peasants' revolutions had emerged because of the depression of the landowners. The workers had made the socialist because of the brutal control of the capitalists. Viewing above scenarios, we can readily and easily get the conclusions that the alternation of the society was due to the hope and endeavor of the common people.

Secondly, it is the common people who are the most intelligent in our society. They had contributed a lot to the development of the new technology and science. A myriad of inventions was made thanks to the need and inspirations of the commons. For example, the stream engineer was invented by a worker--watt who hope to make the railcar to run fast and rapid. It is always due to the need of common people that they made the inventions and thus, induced the development of our society. The invention of bulb and electricity is another example. Even now, it is always own to the need of common people that the inventions are made such as the internet. We got a lot of information and knowledge readily and fast through it. Nobody can imagine the life without these inventions.

Thirdly, in the culture and society scopes, the development was always due to the common people. We can hardly imagine that a writer can wrought out excellent compositions and essays without the deep feelings that come from the life. Prose, novel, and poet are all the insight and muse of the human instinct and desire. Without the deep involvement of life, no one can foster an eternal accomplishment. For example, Jane Eyre, gone with the wind, and titanic are all the insightful detections of human instinct and life and they are derived from the common people and employed to the common people; therefore, they are loved and remembered by common people and the accomplishments got the eternal life.

On the other hand, the famous few also made great contributions to our society. They are the famous people, but they are also a number of the common people. It is just that the history's need that made them distinguished. They contribute a lot to our life and society and make our life more beautiful, fascinating, convenient and easily. We must admit that they really deserve the praise of us all. But we should never forget that it is the history and the people that have acknowledged them and thus, they get the admirations and loves of the people. For example, Carl Marx was a great man who had wrought the Capital and facilitated the worker's revolution. He is great because he accustomed to the society and the need of people. Bill Gates was a great man because he had made our lives increasingly easy and comfortable; thus, we are grateful to him. Chopin was a great man because he had brought us the endless happiness and fascinations in the sea of music. All these people are great because they had adapted to the need of common people and the society.

Thus, we can conclude that it is the common people that make the great people important. The common people are the mainstream of our society. We own the development and improvement of our society and life to these common persons. The great individuals are just a number of the common people and they are great just because they contribute to the development and improvement of our life and society.
In this way, who should be emphasized in the history is not a important issue now, because they are mutual relevant and mutual facilitated.

The following recommendation was made by the president and administrative staff of Grove College, a private institution, to the college's governing committee.
'We recommend that Grove College preserve its century-old tradition of all-female education rather than admit men into its programs. It is true that a majority of faculty members voted in favor of coeducation, arguing that it would encourage more students to apply to Grove. But eighty percent of the students responding to a survey conducted by the student government wanted the school to remain all female, and over half of the alumni who answered a separate survey also opposed coeducation. Keeping the college all-female, therefore, will improve morale among students and convince alumni to keep supporting the college financially.'
------正文------
The author posits that to improve the morale among students and convince alumni to keep supporting the college financially, they should keep the college all-female. The author holds this point on the following evidences. (1) eighty percent of the students responding to a survey conducted by the student government wanted the school to remain all female. (2) Over half of the alumni who answered a separate survey opposed coeducation. (3) A majority of faculty members voted in favor of coeducation, arguing that it would encourage more students to apply to Grove. But the author considers that this influence is minor. At the first blush, what the author had said seems reasonable and rational, but on the second thought it can hardly hold the water.

Firstly, the students who are responded to the survey are not necessarily representative and their points may not represent all the students' hope. It is highly possible that the respondent are the first year students and thus, they have not stay longer enough to get a reasonable results. They have no comparison and no sound results. If all the students are included in the survey, it is highly possible that the result will be reversed. In this way their answers are not reliable and convinced. If this is the case, the students' morale will not be encouraged by the employing of the separate education.

Secondly, over half of the alumni who answered a separate survey also opposed coeducation. This is not necessarily to prove that impeding the coeducation can bring about more money and support from the alumnus. It is possible that the alumni who donate a majority of money are just a small number of alumni and maybe they support the coeducation. The alumni who answered the survey are not necessarily the alumni who will give the most portions of the money. Therefore, to hold on the separate education can not necessarily bring more money to the school.

Thirdly, the author had said that a majority of faculties voted in favor of coeducation. It is highly possible that if we do not imply this policy, the morale of the faculties will be depressed and thus, the quality of the education will decrease. This will induce to the low application and low students quantity which will absolutely decrease the profit of the college. The alumni who had seen this result will not go on to support the college and thus, the college will have a financial budget.

To sum up, the author's contentions are infested with flaws and need to be fulfilled before it can be compelling. The author needs to make the survey reliable and sound before he can get a result. The number of the students and the number of the alumni who answered the questions should be large enough to get a sound result and be reliable and valid. The author also has to prove that the alumni who will give the majority of money are the persons who agree with the separate education. The author must have to prove that the separate education will not impede the inspiration of the faculties and the quality of education will not be affected by the separate education. Before the author gives the above fulfillment, I can hardly agree with what he had said.

------题目------
High-speed electronic communications media, such as electronic mail and television, tend to prevent meaningful and thoughtful communication.
------正文------
We are living in changing world and a changing time, as the United State's president--George W. Bush had said (and I paraphrase). Communication is increasingly important and essential. How to communicate efficiently and effectively becomes a momentous matter. Some hold that the old way of communication is the best way and the new way of communication is not very excellent, especially that they had impeded the meaningful and thoughtful communication. At first brush, the sentiments are sound and rational but after the second consideration, it is not the case. In fact, this view is unreasonable and lopsided. In my opinion, the high-speed electronic communications media, such as electronic mail and television, is a fascinating way of communication instead of preventing the meaningful and thoughtful communication.

In the first place, the high-speed electronic communication has made our lives more easily and fast. It is an absolute good way of communication. Considering the old communication method, it is difficult for us to communicate with others in the ancient times. It is true that people will never or unlikely to communicate with others who are in a different place and who are very far away in the old days. Sometimes if a friend goes to another place which is far away, it becomes impossible for them to meet again and the friendship will be put into the deep oceans; thus, the tragedy feelings of them can be seen in a myriad of old films and novels. But everything has changed in our lives, now we are living in a highly-facilitated world and communication becomes easy and ready. We can telephone a friend through the telephone or grant them with our whole-hearted blessing via in electronic-mail. This has made our lives easily communicated and connected us more closely with our friends and relatives even we are far away. The tragedy feeling of loneliness is far away from us, even if we a alone in a foreign country and the relatives and friends are not at our sides. This method has deepened our links with our friends and relatives. In this way, I believe that the electronic communication has made our lives increasingly fascinating and beautiful.

In the second place, electronic communication has made our lives efficient and effective. If a person wants to communicate with another person, he can make a reservation before hand. In this way, the communication becomes more and more easily and efficient. If you can not find the person that you want to communicate with when you have gone there from far away, how frustrating it will be. Therefore, the new way of communication is an excellent way of communication. People can make the communication efficient without the valid endeavor. We can save a lot of time with the electronic communication. In this way, I believe that the new way of communication is an excellent way of communication. It can also make the communication purposeful. For example, nowadays, the telephone conversations become a common thing. With the new way, people can communicate ideas and precipitate the development. Thanks to the electronic communication, people can touch with each other more and more easily and frequently. This had undeniable promote the development of mechanic communication and make the development of our knowledge and information fast and round.

The electronic communication can be used not only in the formal places, but can also be used in the informal environment such as, the communication of friends. In the old days, if a boy wants to get a girl's heart, he will write a lot of letters. This is a way of communication. But today, with the new and fast communication methods, he can communicate with his girl friend easily and fast. He can write several letters in one day and he can phone his girl friend many times in one day. It is an excellent way of communication. In fact, the new way of communication had made a plethora of unimaginable things become reality. Thinking of net-love, it is absolutely impossible for two person to fall in love with each other if they had never seen before or if they are living far away. Thus, a lot of destiny had been past. But in today, even if you are far away, so long as you have a computer, you are likely to meet each other and fall in love with each other. The fate seems more and more unimaginable. How fascinating it is, if two persons can meet each other in the internet and fall in love with each other. This must be a legend. When it comes to the television, I must admit that it is also a good way of communication. The television has provided us with a myriad of topics to talk with each other and make the communication meaningful and frequent. We can see a lot of friend sitting together and communicate with each other. They are enjoying the real meaningful and interesting lives. Thus, I must admit that it is really a good way of communication.

In summary, the high-speed electronic communication media, such as electronic mail and television has made our lives easily and effective. They are a good way of communication instead of impede the meaningful and thoughtful communication. We can enjoy the interesting and intelligent way of communication.

Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student.
------正文------
Education is very important for everybody, especially the one who will face the challenge of the future. How to make the education increasingly effective and efficient is a matter that needs to be considered seriously. Some people hold that the education should be the same for different students. On the other hand, some people believe that it will become more effective if it can be employed for different people. As far as this matter is concerned, I, personally, believed that the education will be more effective and efficient if it can meet the individual needs and interests of each student.

Firstly, interest is the best teacher for a student. When a person is studying something that he is really interested in, he will be more likely to give out more energy and strength. Thus, a good result will be more possible. Edison was a famous inventor who had been regarded as a idiot when he was still a little boy. After his mother's patient teaching and directing, he became a famous inventor and made a myriad of contributions to the society. Newton was a distinguished physicist who had discovered the gravity theory and this must thank to his interest in physics and his deep thinking. Nowadays, everything must be more efficient and effective, not only in education but also in others fields. For example, a company wants to make a big profit; then, it must be accustomed to the market. If a party wants to be the executive party, it must accommodate with the needs of people and society. If a novel wants to become a popular novel, it must reflect the live of common people and thus, incite the common sense of people who will read it. Only in this way, can we get the results that we want. This is also the case, when it comes to education. If an education wants to be a successful one, it must meet the interests and needs of the individual who will get it. Therefore, it seems more and more important for us to make the education to meet the needs and interests of the individual students.

In the private school, this is a common phenomenon for a subject to fit the students' needs and the students can select the subjects that they want to learn. Thus, we can see that this strategy had incited the excitement and learning ability of the students; therefore, an excellent education quality will be the result. Nowadays, there are more and more people who will apply for the private school because of this reason. The first-class schools are all the schools that will adjust their subjects according to the students' needs. Harvard, the most distinguished university in the world, had applied a lot of subjects that can be selected by the students. Even if you are major in math, you can still choose the fine arts or psychology as the additions. This strategy had enriched the knowledge of the students and enlightened the heart of them; at the same time, incite the learning desire of them. This must be a multi-win strategy. Considering this result, why not use the strategy of educating the students for their own interests and needs?

Even in the public schools, there are a myriad of after-class activities which will co-effect with the in-class learning. These pastimes have made the after-class living increasingly beautiful and meaningful. They had made the students willing to do more active in the class. For example, Darwin was a biologist who had not discovered his intelligence until he had navigated with the cruiser. This illustrates that on one will know his true interest unless he can contact with this scope. If a student is not allowed to select the subject he likes, he will never know what his true interest is and it is likely that he will never become the one who is worthwhile.

Furthermore, different people will have diverse learning abilities. Only when he can learn at his own steps, can he make a rapid progress. For example, in the same class, there will be good students and not so excellent students. If they can study at their own steps, maybe a higher grade will be the result and vice versa. In this way, we can see a lot of school had started to use the computer education, that is, the students can learn at home and learn according to their own steps. We must admit that the result is truly remarkable. This not only make our learning more and more readily and easily, but also make our learning more and more effective and efficient. There are a lot of small class educations which are very popular. The reason for this is self-evidence. Its popularity is due largely to the effective learning results.

In summary, education is a momentous thing and need to be mused seriously. Education is the matter that will affect not only the students themselves but also the society as a whole. Only when it can be designed to fit the various needs and interests of each student, can it make a big profit and a good result.

The following is taken from the editorial section of the local newspaper in Rockingham.
'In order to save a considerable amount of money, Rockingham's century-old town hall should be torn down and replaced by the larger and more energy-efficient building that some citizens have proposed. The old town hall is too small to comfortably accommodate the number of people who are employed by the town. In addition, it is very costly to heat the old hall in winter and cool it in summer. The new, larger building would be more energy efficient, costing less per square foot to heat and cool than the old hall. Furthermore, it would be possible to rent out some of the space in the new building, thereby generating income for the town of Rockingham.'
------正文------
The author posits that Rockingham should tire down the century-old town hall for a larger and more energy-efficient building. He sets up his view points on the following standards. (1) The old town hall is too small to comfortably accommodate the number of people who are employed by the town. (2) It will cost a lot of money to heat the old hall in winter and to cool it in summer. (3) The new, larger building would be more energy efficient, costing less per square foot to heat and cool than the old hall. (4) The new hall can rent out some of the space to generate income for the town of Rockingham. At first brush, the author's sentiments are reasonable and sound but after a second consideration, it can hardly hold the water. We can discover that it is infested with a myriad of flaws and drawbacks which will render the viewpoint whole unreliable and absolutely underground.

In the first place, the author holds that the old hall is too small to hold all the employees and employers in the town. I, personally, believe that there is no need for the hall to hold all the persons in the town because the hall is only a place to play and relax. There is little possibility that all the people in the town will go to the hall at the same time and thus, the need to make a big hall is ungrounded and unsubstantial.

Secondly, the author said that it will cost a lot of money to heat the hall in winter and to cool it in summer. Yet, the author did not prove that it will not cost a lot of money to heat the new hall in winter and cool it in summer. In this case, it is highly possible that to heat and to cool the new hall according to the seasons will cost even more for the new hall's large space. In this case, the author's will to economy the hall will be invalid.

Thirdly, the author holds that the new hall will cost less per square than the old hall to cool and heat in different seasons. Yet, this can hardly be the case for the new hall's luxury and fascinating decorations and equipments. It is highly possible that the new hall will have excellent equipment, such as, the first-class stereotype, the air-conditioner, the electronic-heater, and so forth. All of these will cost a myriad of money and waste a plethora of energy to maintain its present status. In this way, it will rarely the truth for a new hall to cost less than the old hall to cool and heat in the diverse seasons.

Last but not least, the author believed that the new hall can rent out some of the space to generate more income for the town of Rockingham. This is rarely the case considering that the people in the town. It is highly possible that the people in the town will not have enough money to tent the place in the new hall and they may have no need to rent it. Therefore, the hall will never make a profit from renting it. The author has not provide enough evidence to testimony that the hall is not enough for the people in the town and the people in the town need to get more place. In this scenario, the author's point is invalid and lopsided.

In conclusion, the author's viewpoints need to be further enriched and enlarged before it can be convincible. To make his statement reliable and sound, the author must provide enough evidence to demonstrate that the old hall are not enough for the people in the town and the need for a new, large and luxury hall in right in hand. The author also must provide a large amount of evidence to demonstrate that the new hall will really cost less and be more efficient than the old one. If the author wants the new hall to make money for the town, he must provide a myriad of evidence to demonstrate that the new one will be popular among the people in the hall and people will provide enough money to rent it. Only when the author had provided the above evidence, can it be a convincible and rational demonstration.

Statistics collected from dentists indicate that three times more men than women faint while visiting the dentist. This evidence suggests that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. Thus, dentists who advertise to attract patients should target the male consumer and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients.
------正文------
The author contained that the dentists should target on the male consumer. He also contented that they should emphasize the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques as well as the sensitivity of their staff to the nervous or suffering patients. The author based his opinions on the evidences that three times more men than women to faint when they are visiting the dentist and this proves that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. On the first glance, the author's contention seems reasonable and sound, but after a careful consideration, I can hardly agree with the author.

In the first place, the statistics collected from dentists are not necessarily reliable and sound. It is highly possible that the statistic does not include all the data and the persons who are surveyed can not represent all the people in the country. In the way, the conclusion will be doubtful.

Even if the statistics can represent all the people in the country, the conclusion is still not conclusive. The author said that men are three times more than women to faint in the dentist. But the author had not provided the exact number of people who are surveyed and the ration of women to men. It is highly possible that the women are the majority of people who go to the dentist. If this is the case, then, the author's contention of put emphasis on the men will become ungrounded and unreasonable. The emphasis on the men will not bring about a big profit and the dentists will not make a good result on doing that.

Furthermore, the author also agrees that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. In this way, men will go to the dentists less than women to avoid the distress and frustration. If this is the case, then, the author's sentiments of having emphasizing the men in the advertisement will be wrong.

The author also believe that emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients will make more patients go to their hospital. As far as this method is concerned, I can hardly agree with the author. The patients will think that the tooth treatment will be very painful, so the hospital stresses the anesthetic techniques. This will lead to the patients unwilling to go to see the dentists to avoid the painful experience. If this is the case, the hospital will never make a profit from this advertisement. If the hospital emphasize their sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering of their patients, the patients will think that the dentist is not good at his major and thus, he emphasize the sensitivity of the patients instead of the high technology and experience. This will lead to the unreliable feeling of patients to the doctor. If this is the case, the hospital will not get a good result from this advertisement.

In summary, the author's contention is not reliable and valid. To make his sentiments and viewpoints sound and round, the author must make the following enrichment. He must provide enough evidence to prove that the statistics collected are reliable and representative. He also must prove that the number of the men and women who will go to the dentists is the same or the number of women is more than the number of men. The author also must prove that the distress of men will not affect their enthusiastic of visiting the doctors. The author must do some research to prove that what the patients put emphasize on is the anesthetic techniques and the dentists' sensitivity to the patients instead of the good treatment and excellent experience. Only when the author provides the above evidence, can his conclusion be reliable and grounded.

Because of television and worldwide computer connections, people can now become familiar with a great many places that they have never visited. As a result, tourism will soon become obsolete.
------正文------
Now we are living in a technological and scientific society and the television is prevalent. Thus, people can learn about the world without going out. This had made our lives increasingly convenient and efficient. According to this, a myriad of people had said that there is no need to travel around to learn the world. At first blush, the contention seems reasonable and rational. After careful consideration, the scenario is not all-around. I must admit that television is essential to us and we can hardly imagine a life without television. Yet, I also assume that tourists are still paramount for us to learn the world.

First and foremost, tourist can make us learn the world more vividly and lively. Nothing can substitute the practice. Even if you have seen the places many times in the books and televisions, you can never really know the places unless you go there by yourself. What we get from the television is just a rational cognitive and to get a sensual understanding, we must go to that travel place by ourselves. Furthermore, to know a place dose not mean to go to that place, it also includes being familiar with the culture and the custom. For example, you can see a tourist place by watching television but you can never feel the earsplitting sea, the beautiful milkmaid, the courageous cowboy, the trifling river in the golden autumn and so forth. These are the things that are outside of the picture. Only when you have embraced the place, can you really grasp these pretty and interesting moments.

Admittedly, television can bring us to the places that we can never go. We can see the surface of the moon without landing on the moon. We can feel the deep sea skeleton without detecting the sea. We can see the difficult and hard work of the mineworkers without going to the coal-mine. These are all the things that had been brought by the television. Television also brings us the experience and moods. For instance, when we are watching a love story, we can feel the mood of the actors and the actresses without involving ourselves in the movie and the story. We can learn the communication methods via the experience of the actors. These things have given us the experience that we will meet in the future and thus, will help us to deal with the everyday life in the future. As the distinguished leader of China, Chairman Mao had said (and I paraphrase), "the experience which is got from others is essential for the development of the person".

Television can also enable us to taste the culture and the life of several of places. For example, we can see the pretty minority people who can dance and sing very beautiful. We can know the culture of a different place which is very important for the development of a person. Considering a chinese who had never went to the America, he will learn the culture of America by watching television if he has no money to travel there. In this way, we must admit that television is an excellent method for us to learn about a different place if we can not afford to go there by ourselves. A peasant can see the momentous stones of the Yellow Park without going to the America. A student can feel the spectacles of the Pacific without traveling through the sea. These are all the examples of the benefit of the television. Considering all these, I assume that television is a important method of communication.

Yet, we can never neglect the travel method itself for the great role of television. It is traveling itself that is the most interesting and living. Even if a person can feel and see the picture of the places that he wants to go, he will never feel the real feelings of going there. Involving is a unspeakable taste in itself. Only in the football playground, can the football fans feel the excitement of at a lively football game. Imagining the excite shout of the fans in the contest, the luring smell of the food that people had eating at the game, and the earsplitting horn, how can you still stay at home to watch the tasteless television? That the reason for the fever of the tickets. That is why people willing to pay a lot of money to buy the ticket of the game instead of watching the game at home. It is a diverse feeling. In conclusion, television can never substitute the travel itself and be the only method of learning the world and the universe.

I content that television and travel are mutual supplement. They both can make us relax. They are all the good methods of relaxation. Television can enable us to know the world without going out by ourselves. They render our lives more and more convenient and efficient. We can taste the culture and the nature without spending much time and much energy. It is a good way of relaxation. Yet, it can never substitute the tourist. Tourist can enable us to feel the nature and the universe by ourselves and with a complex feeling. We can taste the sound of the bird and hear the color of the mood. This can never become true without traveling itself. In summary, they are all essential to our lives and are all the margins of our lives. We can never live happily without any of them. Over emphasize of any of them is lop-sided.

------题目------
Scientists studying historical weather patterns have discovered that in the mid-sixth century, Earth suddenly became significantly cooler. Although few historical records survive from that time, some accounts found both in Asia and Europe mention a dimming of the sun and extremely cold temperatures. Either a huge volcanic eruption or a large meteorite colliding with Earth could have created a large dust cloud throughout Earth's atmosphere that would have been capable of blocking enough sunlight to lower global temperatures significantly. A large meteorite collision, however, would probably create a sudden bright flash of light, and no extant historical records of the time mention such a flash. Some surviving Asian historical records of the time, however, mention a loud boom that would be consistent with a volcanic eruption. Therefore, the cooling was probably caused by a volcanic eruption.
------正文------
The author assumes that the cooling of the earth was caused by a volcanic eruption. He supports his viewpoint on the following standpoints. (1) Scientists discovered that in the mid-sixth century, there is a significantly cooler weather according to the study of historical weather patterns. (2) The accounts found in Asia and Europe mention a dimming of the sun and extremely cold temperatures according to the few historical records survive from that time. (3) The large dust cloud created by the volcanic eruption or the large meteorite colliding with Earth can block enough sunlight to lower global temperatures significantly. (4) Even if that no extant historical records of the time mention such a flash, a large meteorite collision would probably create a sudden bright flash of light. (5) Some surviving Asian historical records of the time mention a loud boom that would be consistent with a volcanic eruption. At the first glance, it seems reasonable and sound of the author's contention. After the careful consideration, I found that there are a myriad of flaws which render the unsubstantiated contentions invalid on its stands.

Firstly, the author assumes that the earth became significantly cooler in the mid-sixth century according to the study of historical weather patterns. This is unbelievable for its study method. What the scientist studied is the weather patterns and not the earth. Thus, the result is doubtful.

Secondly, the dimming of the sun and the extremely cold temperature in the Asia and Europe is not the indication of the cooling of the earth. It is possible that this is only an exception for the base of the contention. The fundamental materials of the contentions are the few historical records survive from that time. It is highly possible that the material is not enough to represent the real weather of that time. In this way, the material is not valid and the result will be doubtful. Furthermore, the contention is based on the result of Asia and Europe. Even if the material is representative, the results in the Asia and Europe can not necessarily represent all the weather condition of the earth and the other parts of the earth maybe experiencing another kind of conditions. Furthermore, the dim of the sun can not indicate a cold weather. It is possible that the rays that reach the earth is high and thus, the dim of the sun will not affect the weather of the earth or even the earth will get a higher temperature for the higher reaching ration.  The volcanic eruption or a large meteorite colliding with Earth could create a large dust cloud but it does not necessarily create it for sure. The large dust cloud maybe can block the sunlight to lower global temperatures significantly, but it is not necessarily big enough to block it and thus, the lower of temperature will not necessarily be especially low and thus, it will not affect the temperature significantly.

Thirdly, the author also mentions that the large meteorite collision would probably create a sudden bright flash of light and this will make the earth warmer. Though there is no record of this light, it is not mean that there is no this light in the history. It is possible that there are a myriad of this light but people did not record it for the limited technology and science.

Last but not least, the author mentions that the surviving Asian historical records record the loud boom that would be consistent with a volcanic eruption. This record may be not representative especially that it is based on the record of Asian. It is possible that in the other parts of the earth the records are not the same and thus, the record will be invalid. Furthermore, even if there is a loud boom, it maybe not the most important parts of the earth’s change. If this is true, the author’s contention that the earth is cooler will become unsubstantiated.

In summary, the author’s sentiments that the earth is cooler and the volcanic eruption was the cause of it are not valid. To fulfill the contentions, the author must prove the following contentions. He must show that the scientific result is representative and can deduce the whole earth’s situations according to the present materials. The author also must show that there is no meteorite collision if there is no record of the light. The author also must prove that the boom can indicate the volcanic eruptions that are big enough to create the cloud to shade the light to the earth and thus, cool the earth as a result. Before the author can present the above materials, I can hardly agree with the author’s contention.

It is the artist, not the critic,* who gives society something of lasting value.
*a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.
------正文------
Some people say that it is the artist who gives the society something of lasting value and that the critics are just the margin of it. This sentiment has its merits and I agree with it.

Firstly, it is the artist that creates the things. The writer writes the novels and makes the contributions to the society. He makes write the things according to his own life and the experience. This can be the matters with a lasting value. For example, the novel, gone with the wind, shows us an exciting and long-lasting love. The novel, Jane Eyre, is also an eternal novel. With the experience of the author, he wrote the novels. Thus, it is a novel of long lasting interest. In the film industry, it is also the same. The film, Titanic, shows us the eternal and true love between the higher class and the lower class in the mid-century. We all excited about this movies and it had given us something of lasting value. When it comes to paintings, it is the same. We can imagine the painting of the Picasso and Vinci. It is the experience and the imagination that has enabled them to create the matters and the paintings. What can last for ever is always the things that has the meanings and that gets from the real lives. Thus, I believe that it is the artists that create the things of the lasting value.

On the other hand, the critics have his values. Some people hold that the critics have the ability to critic the artists. Yet, I, personally, believe that the critics have little value. What the critics criticized is just the work of the artists and it has no value when the works of the artists are not there. Furthermore, the critics just evaluate the works of the artists without many contributions. For example, nowadays, it becomes a custom for the big accomplishment to be evaluated. Yet, the result is not very good. The critics can give little contribution to the development of the art. Furthermore, the critics are just doing their works according to the work of the former artists. In fact, the readers can evaluate the works by themselves and there is no need for the works of the artists. In this way, I believe that the critics have little value.

In addition, the critics can affect the work of the artists. Sometimes the critics will give some wrong advice to the artists and this has little value for the artists can get little result from it. Art is a thing that derived from the bottom of the heart and any influence of the artificial is not important. For example, what the artists write is just the feeling of them and these feelings can never be changed by others; even if it is changed according to the feelings of the critics, it will never reflect the real emotion of the artists and this will never be the real and authentic accomplishments any more. Thus, the critics have little value to the work of the artists. Furthermore, the critics sometimes can affect the work of the artists. If the artists work just to suit the taste of the critics, it will never be the reflection of the artists’ true feelings. In this way, the critics can just impede the creativity of the artists and will not give any contribution to the work of the artists.

In conclusion, I believe that it is the artists that create the long-lasting valuable things, such as novels, films, music, paintings, and so forth. The critics are the person that will never benefit the development of the society and the art. What the critics can do is just affect the creativity of the artists and this will never be any use to the artists.
