The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society’s ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people.
1.大负小正
2。people's look, dress, act mainly reveals individual taste and interest, 具有多样性和易变性
3.admittely, appearance and behavior of people changes with the values of society to some degree, but because of the two factors mentioned above, it could not reflect the whole society.
It is very obvious that the way people look, dress and act varies in different nations and countries, then, can we tell much about a society's idea and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people? In my opinion of view, the appearance and behavior of people mainly represent the individual tastes, attitude and interest, and could not reflect the whole society's ideas and values much and deeply.
There is no doubt that we can see some characteristics from people's look, dress and act. For instance, individuals dressed with a tie and a suit often give others a formal and even a little serious impression, on the other hand, persons with sportswear look like more youthful and active. A cautious man often gives his opinion after having thought over it; however, those slapdash people often say and act as soon as they think about it. As a matter of fact, we can usually tell some apparent traits of a person and even what the social grade he comes from or what occupation he is engaging in by observing his appearance and behavior carefully.
Though the way of dressing and act really reveal a lot of a person, the people's appearance and behavior do not necessarily reflect the whole society's ideas and values. At the first place, although coming from the same community, people of different age may have very dissimilar or even contrary principles. For example, many old people in China could not understand and accept adolescents to dye their hair yellow and use up all their salary to enjoy themselves without thinking about the future. So it is very hard for us to generalize what the society treasures by merely observing part of its people. Furthermore, the appearance and behavior of person are flexible and changeable in accordance with the fashion, and influenced by the other culture with the globalization. Then how can one tell the relative sustained values of a society through the changeful appearance and behavior of its people?
Admittedly, changes in people's dressing or acting styles may be associated with value changes of a society to some degree. One example illustrates this point is that more and more people in China want to do business indicate the practical trend in our society. Whereas, being relatively various and temporary, the appearance and behavior of people do not reflect the whole society's values and values necessarily and deeply. |
