5 A company has announced that it wishes to build a large factory near your community. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your community. Do you support or oppose the factory? Explain your position.


Supposing a large factory be built near my community by a company, it surely brings the community with both positive and negative effects. After carefully pondering these two sorts of effects, I spare no effort to oppose the factory’s building plan, because I think that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

In the first position, new factory will definitely cause a lot of pollution to my community, which will deteriorate the air condition and surrounding environment. In recent years, pollution problems arise especially in big cities as well as my community. I do not expect to see that the new factory makes the living condition in my place even worse. I want to live in a community with fresh air, lots of trees and flowers and a clean sky, but the factory has nothing to do with this. So, I strongly oppose the company’s decision of building a new factory.

Furthermore, the new factory needs a lot of workers to run it, which means if the new factory is founded, more people will pass by my community day and night, which certainly will cause more and more traffic jam and a lot of noise. The commodity’s price will rise and the price of the land will ascend too. This situation causes a large burden to the people living in current community, which leads to a low living quality.

Otherwise, new factory has many advantages. First, it will absorb many new college graduates and unemployment men to work in it. Apart from this merit, a factory built beside my community will help to raise the income of local government for land usage and tax fee, which will contribute to the development of my community.

Although there are many advantages the new factory will bring to the community, I still oppose to its construction. There is one simple explanation. No matter how hard the company tries to solve the pollution problem caused by the factory, there is still more or less wasted air releasing out. I hold the position that environment is the foremost element that every company should consider, so the new factory should be set far away instead of near my community.
