14. Some people believe that university students should be required to attend classes. Others believe that going to classes should be optional for students. Which point of view do you agree with? Use specific reasons and details to explain your answer.
20:56-21:46
The university is one place to teach the students what to study and how to study. One major form of doing so is varieties of classes prepared by the university educate system. While some people believe that students should have the rights and freedom to decide whether to go to the courses, I hold the opposite view. In my opinion, it should be a university rule that students have to go to each class they have on their schedule. Furthermore, if they are caught absent too much, the school has to rethink about rewarding them the degrees.
To begin with, the people who attend universities are normally young people about 20 years old. They have unbelievable passions and also make unbelievable mistakes. The universities usually assign the students different kinds of courses in order to teach them various abilities and knowledge they need. It is understandable that some of the kids may not like one or more of these courses such as quantum physics or some kind of philosophy courses. What would they do if they were not required to go to classes? They would skip the classes and refuse to look at even only one page of the book. It is not likely that they would pick up one of those obscured masterpieces and read them while they hate them. However if they went to the classes, the professors may be able to express the ideas in a more understandable way and inspire their great passions of learning.
Furthermore, there are a lot of skills and knowledge that could be quite complex to apprehend totally. If one student studies without attending the course, one may spend hours and hours on the same topic, and however tragic, this young child may end up with a false conclusion without being instructed. But if this young student was required to take the classes, things could be just the different. The professor could point out the shortcut for him or her in the field of science, and if this he or she has some questions still, the professor is right there waiting for a discussion.
However, I am not arguing that requiring the students to attend the classes is right and not requiring is wrong. This is not a black and white situation. I admit that there are some geniuses who need not go to all the classes. I also admit that going to the class is only small portion of the ways to learn things. But to think on behalf the most ordinary college students, be required to go to classes would definitely work out better for their future development.
To sum up, university students have to face so many temptations that they may not be able to restrain themselves when needed. Therefore, the school policy could help them out at this very moment of life. Requiring the students to attend courses can be a helpful force and restriction during their school life.
