1.There are two species of large mammals (that) once dominated the North American prairies the American bison 这个句子不能成立。这里不能省略that，定从的先行词在做宾语时可以省略，而这里是做主语。 还有一种情况是可以省略which be的。但要一起省略。

2.题目主要是考the first to do这种用法，这个不知道考了多少遍了。其他的肯定不能选。至于understand fully，不是这个题目考察的重点。错不错无所谓了~
