比如,the rainforest of Amazon.
A national monument in southern Utah
1996, United States President Bill Clinton proclaimed a 680,000-hectare (1.7 million-acre) expanse of red rock wilderness in southern Utah a national monument. The declaration of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument drew cheers from environmentalists and wrath from local politicians. It is rich in economic resources, particularly coal.

【正文】
Should government preserve publicly owned wilderness areas in their natural? The author claims so. I am inclined to concur with the idea that it is government's responsible to preserve wilderness areas in good conditions no matter what role these areas play in the quotidian life of the residents. To further shore up my opinion, I would present my analysis in detail as below.
To begin with, concerning the immediate effect on environment, we know, as a general rule, that a wilderness area usually plays a vital role in maintaining balance for human, flora and fauna in nature. Without this balance, not only are the animals and the plants living in the wilderness areas injured badly but people, even residing far away from the wilderness areas, would also face a severe ecological disaster. Take the deforestation of Amazon for instance, the rainforest along Amazon River in which almost nobody is living tend to sharply decrease with time passed by. As a result, people, who are aware of this problem, would obviously feel that the global atmosphere aggravate gradually in accordance with the deterioration of the rainforest in the region of Amazon. Consequently, government should take up the responsibility to protect publicly owned wilderness areas as possible as it could in order to ensure the environment upon which people and other lives on the earth rely to survive.
In addition, when it turns out to academic field, the wilderness areas, though only accessible to only a few people, greatly appeal to people who are engaged in research work which may badly needs these untouched and thus primitive wilderness areas. For example, with the development of gene technology, people can now replicate, transfer and even integrate genes into new but a better one, all of which, however, hinge on the premise that there exist the genes and the genes which are worthy of being improved. Since the wilderness areas often are habitats of various species, the decision to pay less or no attention to these areas is absolutely not a wise one to the extent that it runs the risk of abandoning excellent genes in the world by doing which people would certainly expected nothing but a great loss in not simply the research but also the evolvement of human.
Last but not least, the publicly owned wilderness areas, evaluated in the consideration of their economical values, seems to be of little value in the people's eyes who tend to oppose the author's view. Nonetheless, the point is that people should also take into account the resource buried in the wilderness areas. A national monument in Utah, for example, which was proclaimed as a wilderness area by President Bill Clinton in 1996 illustrates this point. This national monument is rich in many economical resources, particular coal which all serve as indispensable energy in the development of modern society. Without enough energy provided, the world is presumed to be stalled in that all the machines can not work any more, which would absolutely bring great loss in the economy. On the contrary, with the wilderness areas protected carefully by government, the resource in them would be used when facing global shortage of energy.
To sum up, as discussed above, we can confidently draw a conclusion that the wilderness areas deserve the protection of government due to the interests they brings not only in the environment field but also in the academic and economical realms. |
