不好意思,到现在才回改
Tradition is to modernization what knife is to fork, it cannoe be denied that they supplement for each other in a variety of aspects, from notion to technology, from fine arts to societal development at large, so as to better serve to human being’s pursue toward truth and progress. Consequently, relation between tradition and modernization should be a dialectical and ultimately a harmonious one. A viable tradition should continue to guide individuals and societies in their quest for what is truly good, and modernization should simply supply more effective means for that quest.
In most events, traditon refers to conservertive notions, beliefs and ethices, which guarantee the positive development of modern technologies. The striking examples involve the application of cloning and biochemical weapons. Villains resorts to these techniques as an effecious way to dominate over man(这个dominate over 是不是用得不太对?), or even to bog the whole societ down into chaos and disaster. Good-will scients, however, adopt them so as to explore the profound knowledge in the study of gene and biochemistry,or some other endeavors which are conducive to mankind. In this sense, for the sake of huam beings, technoligical development is in dire need of traditon in order to ensure the welfare of socety。(缺少过渡,还有干脆不如直接写成传统的道德观念,traditon refers to conservertive notions, beliefs and ethices这一句就会站得住脚了)
When it comes to arts, with regard to the essence of arts, which is in defiance of time boundary it’s without doubt that only by the combination of tradition ideas (为什么不用traditional ideas?)and modernization could we build up the integrated systime of arts. For example, a great deal of archaic architectures are still considered to be the priceless treasure in many modern European countries.(这个例子说明传统艺术和现代化是可以共存的,并没有反映出combination of tradition ideas and modernization啊?我觉得这个例子没有足够的力量)Then, in terms of state administration,an obvious example is Chiang Kai-shek's effort to use a conservative Confucianism(a representative of tradition), what we might call state Confucianism, to build his Kuomintang (Kokuminto) regime in the 1930s and later. A certain kind of Confucianism had long been an instrument of state power in East Asia and so it was natural that modernizers would again attempt to use it in that way. While Confucianism was less central in Japan than in China, Japanese modernizers used a kind of state Confucian ideology in building the Meiji emperor system and then in more extreme from during the 1930s and 1940s. Shinto in the from of state Shinto was also mobilized for the purpose of state building during the same period. From the above examples, we can see tha t tradition plays an imperative role in the social development, in terms of arts and state administration.
Deep down, with the blistering pace of technological development people would have more access to knowing the past. Take Pyramid exploration for example, equipped with the modern advanced technology, scientists stand more chance to show ordinary people the detailed,if not profoundest, information about old pyramid. It’s undeniable that without modern techniques ,will Pyramid still keep as a mysterious secret for us,which is unsearchable for scientists as well. In this sense, modernization of technologies provide modern people with a view toward the past, and they by all means shorten the time space betwwen the past and present. In turn, people would better know great achievements in remote times and rely on them to solve some modern similar problems.(这一段论证的好!)
In closing,“moderniazation”is a contrast term to “tradition” and therefore without tradion there would be no naissance of the conception of modernization. This principle is the same as the relation between“good”and “better”. Nevertheless, Traditionalism for much of modern social science refers to a situation where one takes the past uncritically as a model for unimaginative imitation. Under such a circumstance, we could not choose traditon while show bitter resistance to modernization. Yet, the spirit of people, work ethic, social disciplin, which are more or less rooted in one or another aspect of traditon should be viewd as the the guidance to show people the right direction while modern means be fell back on to facilitate socital development.(有点多,而且tradition和modernization的冲突是明显的,我觉得应该把这段分成两段,一段adimittedly,一段结尾。 |
