Law, as a tool of controling the orderness of a society or a nation, is early built up and has a long history. Law once is stationary and rigid, while now it has turned to be more flexible. I think it is reasonable, since a flexible enough law has more advantages than one that is inflexible.

Admittedly, once rigid laws have confined people and treated malefactors strictly, thus gradually making people believe and obey the law, which turns to be a virtue. The title-- "You cannot destroy the common property, or you will be punished!"  in the park, shop, or other common place, has greatly warned people to obey the fixed law, and also made people cultivate a good habit of protecting common property. The law of not disturbing common order also has the similar function. "Do not across the road when the order do not allow you to do so" , does not only bring a convenient transpotation, but also keep foot passenger safe. Unchangeable laws on not hurting other people intentionally or even seriously, have brought a sense of safty to every one and make every one more generous on skirmish.

However, rigid law cannot bring us a more peaceful world, since the forms of crime are various in different place and at different time. Early in ancient time, law has already turned to be flexible to adopt new ideas or extend legal principles in the complex environment. It was well reflected in Roman law. Without replacing older laws, Romans developed alternative procedures that allowed greater fairness. For example, a Roman was entitled by law to make a will as he wished, but, if he did not leave his chirldren at least 25 percent of his property, the magistrate would grant them an action to have the will declared invalid as an "irresponsible testament." Instead of simply changing the law to avoid confusion, the Romans preferred to humanize a rigid system by flexible adaption.

In the increasingly mobile society today, a flexible law is very necessary to deal with new conditions. We may have never consider violence happening among family members, called "family violence" has  become so serious that it takes a great part of crime today. Family violence damages seriously the victims' health, infringes their lawful rights and destroys social stability and development, thus having caused widely social concerns. In order to protect the victim's rights and interests, all-round social support system must be built up. If still maintain the old law and not notice the more and more awful conflict in family, the cost of more people wil be hurt and more families will be destroyed must be tremendous.

Therefore, as things are different from place to place, and changing from time to time, it is very possible that new rights of people should be protected or new rules in new field should be set. Laws are not born consummately(to change what word?), rigid law cannot maintain fairness all the time. So laws should keep pace with these various conditions, to maintain the human's rights, such as respect, safety, indepence, and create a more peaceful world to make life happier, more colorful.
