我认为划线部分是修饰a pass的，但是soon becoming这种现在分词出现在这里就在语法上变成了主语的修饰语，句子被解释成为Jim,soon becoming the gate,discovered....
所以我认为，soon becoming 应该为定语从句。

改错题要找出effectiveness的错误吗？不是只找correctiveness?
being在improve sentence里面的确是出现基本就错，在改错题里面也是吗？
