In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books.

Throughout the human history of learning, reading books is an indispensable element not only in the past days but also at present. However, with the rapid development of television, it seems that people can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books. Notwithstanding many people hold this opinion, personal experience tells me that reading books still have its vigorous life in the process of pursuing knowledge.

Why reading books is important in former times? From my perspective, its advantages can be sorted in there aspects which are convenience, abundance and duplication. To begin with, convenience is an innate advantage of book as it is light and small to carry. In campus, the scene that a student, carry one or more books, make speed with his or her journey can be seen at all time and all places. As for me, I have the habit of carrying at least one book with me wherever I go. Thus, books are surely convenient for people to gain knowledge. Secondly, books are resourceful pools of every field of research. Since the invention of paper and pens, our forbears began to write down significant things happened in their daily life, which might be called the embryo of a book. As time went by, books, serving as a remarkable invention of human being, have formed their own structure which content with every sphere of knowledge. No one can deny that each realm is able to find its share of portion in books, physiology, sociology, psychology, zoology, philosophy and so forth. Thirdly, the way of reading books to learn knowledge provides learners with reviewing for many times. As is know to all, duplication is the indispensable way of learning, this advantage will definitely make reading books unreplaceable. In brief, reading books has its unique benefits which make this way of learning rich of vitality.

Watching television cannot supply as much knowledge as reading books. The chief problem of watching television is that it is limited by the arrangement of program. Imagine that a person has a passion of learning botany at a time, nevertheless, he or she happened to find no program of this subject at the time, what will he or she feel? Certainly be very frustrated. What’s more, if this occasion happens too frequently since every television program needs to make profit so that editors should select what to be on with cautions, a person might lose his or her interest in the subject. Moreover, there are many subject, such as mathematics, physics, philosophy which cannot be well developed into television. All of these kinds of subjects need digestion repeatedly to master. Furthermore, when it comes to novels, which seems to be the most suitable form to be developed into plays, television plays are against the author’s initial intention to some extent. A researcher must turn to original books in order to study the works. Thus, watching television could replace reading books is not a believable idea.

Admittedly, watching television has its especially advantage such as quick, vivid, animated, impressing. The subjects like biology, medicine, tourism are fit for learning with the help of watching television. Television programs show the television viewers visual pictures as well as explain abstract knowledge in a plain way. Take biology for example, when learning the fundamental mechanism of respiration, study will becomes more easy and acceptable if the learner can watch the process of the cycle.

To sum up, reading books is not only a indispensable way of learning attribute to its three unique advantages which can not be replaced by any other kinds of learning means but also it has it distinctive aspect of passing down knowledge. Although, watching television has some good quality, it will never replace the means of reading books.

开头写得很精彩,明确地表达了自己的观点;
