The speaker's statement actually consists of two claims:(1) the video camera can provide an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life; (2) the video camera has become a more important form of documentation than written records. While I fundamentally agree with the first claim, I strongly disagree with the second one.

Turing to the threshold claim, the video camera, as an efficient high-tech implement, can accurately record contemporary life. At the personal level, the video camera can record people's life and provides us a precious documents as part of memory. Take personal experience for example. As a man who is enthusiasm about life, I always use my video camera to capture details of life. Consequently, my camera accurately recorded the basketball game between my parents, my first time to play piano, and the surprise party for my girlfriend, all of which lie in my mind and never fade with the help of the vivid picture provided by the video camera. At the social level, the video camera can serve to provide precious historical documents in numerous respects, such as war, social events and significant athletics, for researchers and descendants. A telling example involves the SARS in 2003 in China. While SARS had put great threat on the health of residents and harmony of Chinese society, innumerous Chinese in different occupations, especially the doctor and nurse, had persevered on their works as heroes and guard of the society. And the video camera accurately recorded their contribution and the collective spirit of Chinese, which would display not only the event that cannot be erased but also the spirit to our descendants.

Conceding the amazing function of the video camera, this high-tech implement also has several foibles unjustifiably ignored by the author. In the first place, the video camera fails to record some complicated or generalized things. For example, the legislation and laws are always recorded not by the video camera but paper documents; the abstract mathematical theories and the proving process are hard to recorded by the video camera and the whole life and thought of a celebrity also cannot be completely recorded by camera. My second argument with the first claim has to do with a fact overlooked by the speaker- while the video camera can accurately record contemporary life, it also can be easily revised via some computer software, such as Photoshop. In a word, though the video camera serves as a good tool for recording, it also has some disadvantages which easily by neglect.

Turning to the ultimate claim, as far as I concerned, the video camera cannot substitute for written records as a document tool for following reasons. Firstly, a camera can only capture the process of an event while the written records not only can record the process but even record the cause and analysis of the event, which help descendants and historicist better comprehend the event. Secondly, the written record can provide the writer's opinion about an event, which might be not objective but could enlighten readers to think. To sum up, it is rather superficial to claim that the video camera has become more important than written records.

In conclusion, I believe that although camera is an excellent tool to record contemporary life, it fails to substitute for written records. Not only because can written records record some complicated and generalized information, such as law and autobiography, but also because the written records can provide descendants with thought and analysis besides the process of an event, which are seminal inheritance of human civilization.
