The most advantage of Canada is that you can apply for immigration
when studying in Canada. (Typically they required one year's
working experience, but I know some Chinese students without
it managed to make out such proof in China and succeeded in
the immigration application). After you got the PR, you are
free in Canada. If you continue your study until you get
your degree, then it does not take long further before you
get your Canadian citizenship. With a Canadian passport, you
have more freedom in travelling around the world and job
hunting in the USA. It takes long time to wait for greencard
in the USA.
If you think the above aspect is dominant, welcome to Canada
and forget all kinds of advantages of Canada.
The disadvantages of Canada are:
1. Fewer opportunities. Even in so-called hot majors,
such as EE or CS, there are exponentially more
opportunities in the USA.
2. Lower payment and higher tax. The RA/TA income from
the school and salary from the company are lower than USA.
The tax is higher. When you consider buying something
a bit expensive, such as car, it makes some difference.
3. Not an exciting and energetic society. The atmosphere
in and out of school is suffocating. Everything is
over-well-ordered and over-peaceful.
4. It is more difficult to get a driver's license in
Ontario, especially in Toronto, than in the states.
5. If you are not in CS/EE major, but want to transfer
to such graduate programs in order to find a job more
easily, you will find it very difficult, if not
impossible, in Canada Quite a few Canadian schools
require you to "restart" from undergraduate. This is
rather nasty and hair-pulling for some of my friends.
Either they themselves have such trouble in changing
programs, or their spouses do.
