   Education plays an important role in every society and in everyone’s lifetime. Some people claim that only professional educators have the ability to educate students, while others believe that parents and communities should also be involved in the local schools. I agree with the latter. Leaving education solely to a group of professional educators is not advantageous to the development of any children.

   First of all, since parents are more familiar with their children, they can educate their children with adequate flexibility and enough attention. For one thing, the courses provided in schools may not be suitable for every student, for the courses are designed to satisfy the majority’s needs. Possibly, some students may find it hard to catch up with others; some might be depressed that the subject he is interested in is not included. Finally, they will lose interest in study. For these situations, parents can teach by themselves or send their children to training center as a supplementary method for their children’s education. For another, teachers do not have the energy to take care of all the students because there are usually too many students in one class. Some psychological problems or bad habits on a certain student might not be discovered in time. For parents, they usually only have one or two children. If parents are involved in education, they can keep track of their own children and take measures to prevent the problems before it is too late.

   In addition, the function of community is also indispensable for education. The school is a comparatively small place for children’s all-round development. For most of the time, the only people they meet at school are teachers and schoolmates; the only knowledge they get is from the textbooks. But school is not the only place for them to learn useful things. Students should be allowed and encouraged to participate in some activities in the community to practise their communicating and working skills. They can do social work, social practice and voluntary work in their spare time. In this way, they can apply what they have learned in school and can also learn some practical skills that are seldom taught at school.

   We should admit, however, professional educators are the most important part in education, for they are well trained for education and are more experienced in educating than parents and communities. Professional educators in schools can provide students with systematical curriculums, regular tests and well-equipped facilities, but they cannot replace the role of parents and communities. The goal of education is not only to equip students with various kinds of knowledge. Students have to be all-round and well-mannered people. When educators in schools put sufficient emphasis on professional knowledge, they tend to pay less attention to student’s other needs, such as psychological comfort and the training of practical skills, which are also vitally important for students.

    In conclusion, when students are receiving academic education at school, they should also get their parents’ and the communities’ support. Excluding parents and communities from education is dangerous to the development of students. Only professional educators alone cannot achieve the ultimate goal of education. Education calls for the cooperation of the three parts—professional educators, parents and communities. (536 words)
