The author claims that some nonmainstream areas of inquiry serve as an important role by satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science. I partly agree with the author's assertion in that such nonmainstream subjects truly meet the curiosity of the human being and help to comfort many people who are worried about their future.However, when it comes to the case that some nonmainstream areas acts as the spiritual power for people then such subjects may have a negative impact on the human society.

In the first place, these nonmainstream areas are always successful in satisfying the people’s curiosity about the unknown world. In fact, many mainstream subjects, such as physics or philosophy, already solve many problems in the process in which people seek for  the answers to lots of questions  about the world.However,there are also many phenomena which puzzle people that can not be well explained by the mainstream subjects, especially when some supernatural power conflicts with the common sense of the human society.Consequently,the people will be involuntary to ask for help to the nonmainstream inquiry, just as their very ancient ancestors thought that the thunder or flash was due to the anger of the deity, in that the human beings never give up finding answers to satisfying their curiosity ever since they first came out in the Earth.

Secondly, another function of such nonmainstream areas of inquiry is to comfort the people who worried about the future. After all, many people put a lot of interest in such areas just because of their function of "predicating" the future, although nobody knows whether it is correct or not.Actually, it is due to the rapid pace of the modern society that many people feel unhelpful or even despairing about their future life and ask subjects such as astrology or fortune-telling for help to make them feel better or more confident about their destinies. A small clerk perhaps worried about losing his job tomorrow stockholder may be afraid of the sharp decrease of the value of his stocks and a political leader might be scared that he would be murdered by the anignotisms.Hence, to a big extent because of the existences of such people, these nonmainstreams area of inquiry can be more and more popular and prosperous in the modern society.

However, before I come to my final conclusion, I would like to point out that the nonmainstream areas should be avoided from being the spiritual power for people. It is dangerous or even disastrous when someone or some organization uses these areas of inquiry as tools to control a group of people, usually those who are ill educated or underclass of the society. Due to the blind worship to some single person, these people are easily to be made a fool of to lose their money or even their lives.Furthermore, even some small organizations through the spiritual power make terror attacks, which badly threaten the goverment, the country as well as the human society.Therefore, both the government and the society have the obligation to prevent people from being powered by this so-called spiritual power.

In sum, although in some cases the nonmainstream areas of inquiry would lead a bad impact on the society, before the mainstream science can answer all the questions about the unknown world those nonmainstreams areas of inquiry will indispensably play a significant role by satisfying some human needs.

感觉第三段的中心句和内容不是很符合。直接说有些人会用非主流东西来欺骗人比较直观吧

拜读了一下，觉得很好，每段都展开论证，紧扣主题。可能是我眼拙，除了第二段ts后紧接的那个in fact，我觉得那句是和后面的however是一个转折。向你学习啊，用词也很好^_^
