TOPIC: ISSUE50 - "In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."
WORDS: 652          TIME: 12:45:00 AM          DATE: 7/22/2006

If the faculty spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach, is it valuable or benefit to the quality of instruction? The answer may be yes, however, not for the entire faculties, as the speaker alleges.

The teachers who spend some considerate time working outside the academic world would 充实或者丰富   their teaching contends and bring new view and new methods to their teaching courses. A real teacher is not one who only imparts the plenitude knowledge from book to students, but one who could introduce new development of knowledge and how to apply the knowledge into practice. Take teacher education at the college and university for example, if the faculty who teaches pedagogy, but he or she does not know how to teach the students of elementary or high school, can he or she be effective to teach the future teachers, the students major in education in college or university? Therefore, for these faculties, they need enough time to probe into relevant fields to know relevant knowledge which can not be found in the book. We all know that, for many disciplines, there is great discrepancy between what should be---we could know through reading book and what it is in fact ---we could only understand through practical. As the teacher of college, what they should do is to tell the students not only what it should be but also what it is.

For the students, they could learn more from those who usually plumb into relevant professions, in other words, they would learn real knowledge. The task of learning for the students in college and university is different from the elementary and high school students. The later who learn knowledge are mainly to find their inner interests and prepare for future higher education; while the former who learn is to serve for the society and prepare for finding one job for themselves  three or four years later. Therefore, they should not only learn considerate knowledge, but also learn how to use these knowledge into practice. In this extent, if the faculty could work in relevant professions may know exactly, in what extent the students should know the knowledge from the book and in what extent they should learn practical knowledge.

Admittedly, it is not feasible for all faculties working in their relevant profession.  Firstly, it may be impossible for all faculties to find relevant professions. Not all faculties of the courses could find correlate profession in the society such as the philosophy ideas of Nisei or shubenhua. Maybe the most suitable profession to work is in college and university. Secondly, it is not necessary for all faculties to work outside the academic. Some teachers of certain courses such as basic mathematics and physics, theory deduction is perfect for them.  Thirdly, some people are not suitable for work outside the college and university. Take Einstein for example, if he were still a teacher of one university, we do not know which profession is fit for him besides teaching and not giving him more time to conceive his theory.

Those who refuse admitting that the faculty should work outside in considerate time may be afraid that the teachers might be distracted from teaching and do harm to instructing.  Sounds reasonable, but such afraid is reduntable if the teacher is arduous to teaching in college and university. These faculties would use such opportunity to improve the teaching and bring new blood to the course of instructing. For those who may be distracted from teaching or would select the outside work, it is a good chance to let them leave away the teaching position and let those who are truly interested in the jobs in colleges and universities to enter the gate of education.

In all, for the faculty who could have necessity to work outside academic, it will benefit to the instructing and teaching in college and university.

If the faculty spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach, is it valuable or benefit to the quality of instruction? The answer may be yes, however, not for the entire faculties, as the speaker alleges.(这里容易照成混淆是speak认为not for还是 the entire faculties。
The teachers who spend some considerate time working outside the academic world would 充实或者丰富(strengthen就可以了吧)   their teaching contends and bring new view(s) and new methods to their teaching courses. A real teacher(qualified teacher比较好吧) is not one who only imparts the plenitude knowledge from book to students, but one who could introduce new development of knowledge and how to apply the knowledge into practice. Take teacher education (teacher education可以这样说吗?)at the college and university for example, if the faculty (这个词是个集合名词,在这里用teacher或者professor代替吧)who teaches pedagogy, but he or she does not know how to teach the students of elementary or high school, can he or she be effective to teach the future teachers, the students major in education in college or university? Therefore, for these faculties,(faculty) they need enough time to probe into relevant fields to know relevant knowledge which can not be found in the book. We all know that, for many disciplines, there is great discrepancy between what should be---we could know through reading book and what it is in fact ---we could only understand through practical.(practice) As (Like) the teacher of college, what they should do is to tell the students not only what it should be but also what it is.

For the students, they could learn more from those who usually plumb into relevant professions, in other words, they would learn real knowledge. The task of learning for the students in college and university is different from (the one for)the elementary and high school students.(你混淆主语了) The later who learn knowledge are mainly to(The main purpose of the students from elementary and high school is to)find their inner interests and prepare for future higher education; while the former who learn is to serve for the society and prepare for finding one job for themselves  three or four years later. Firstly, it may be impossible for all faculties to find relevant professions.(这一句和下一句重复了。可以删去) Not all faculties of the courses(删掉of the courses) could find correlate profession in the society such as the philosophy ideas of Nisei or shubenhua.(不是说老师找不到合适位置吗? Maybe the most suitable profession to work is in college and university. Secondly, it is not necessary for all faculties to work outside the academic. Some teachers of certain courses such as basic mathematics and physics, theory deduction is perfect for them.(你这句话是错句,改成theory deduction is perfect for some teachers of certain courses such as basic mathematics and physics) Thirdly, some people are not suitable for work outside the college and university. Take Einstein for example, if he were still a teacher of (in)one university, we do not know which profession is fit for him besides teaching and not giving him more time to conceive his theory.

In all, for the faculty who could have necessity to work outside academic, it will benefit to the instructing and teaching(两个单词意思差不多用一个就行了) in college and university. If the faculty spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach, is it valuable or benefit to the quality of instruction? The answer may be yes, however, not for the entire faculties, as the speaker alleges.

If the faculty spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach, is it valuable or benefit to the quality of instruction? The answer may be yes, however, not for the entire faculties, as the speaker alleges.

The teachers who spend some considerate time working outside the academic world would 充实或者丰富   their teaching contends(contents?) and bring new view(s) and new methods to their teaching courses. A real teacher is not (the) one who only imparts the plenitude knowledge from book(s) to students, but one who (这个one who可以灭掉的)could introduce new development of knowledge and how to apply the knowledge into practice. Take teacher education at the college and university for example, if the faculty who teaches pedagogy, but he or she does not know how to teach the students of elementary or high school, can he or she be effective to teach the future teachers, the students major in education in college or university? (这一句话的句式有些混乱那个take …for example可以自成一句的,而且这个例子,按照你的主题句应该是支持说参加那些profession可以丰富他们的教学内容,这里却变成了连教课的能力都没有了,而且题目中说明是college level就不应该再扯到小学和高中吧?)Therefore, for these faculties, they need enough time to probe into relevant fields to know relevant knowledge which can not be found in the book. We all know that, for many disciplines, there is great discrepancy between what should be---we could know through reading book and what it is in fact ---we could only understand through practical. As the teacher of college, what they should do is to tell the students not only what it should be but also what it is.(你的结论最后归到了实践出真知了,和主题句有点偏)

For the students, they could learn more from those who usually plumb into relevant professions, in other words, they would learn real knowledge. The task of learning for the students in college and university is different from the elementary and high school students. The later who learn knowledge are mainly to find their inner interests and prepare for future higher education; while the former who learn is (主谓不一致)to serve for the society and prepare for finding one job(jobs?) for themselves  three or four years later.(那大三大四的学生学什么呢?a couple of years later就好了) Therefore, they should not only learn considerate knowledge, but also learn how to use these knowledge into practice.

Take Einstein for example, if he were still a teacher of one university, we do not know which profession is fit for him besides teaching and not giving him more time to conceive his theory.(这个老爱同学可以去BAR里拉小提琴啊,没人说他不在学校就什么都干不出来啊?)

Those who refuse admitting that the faculty should work outside in considerate time may be afraid that the teachers might be distracted from teaching and do harm to instructing.  Sounds reasonable(这句还是写全了吧,如果你是状语从句省略although,那后面的but怎么回事?), but such afraid is reduntable(这个词是?) if the teacher is arduous to teaching in college and university. These faculties would use such opportunity to improve the teaching and bring new blood to the course of instructing.(还是正文第一段的观点?) For those who may be distracted from teaching or would select the outside work, it is a good chance to let them leave away the teaching position and let those who are truly interested in the jobs in colleges and universities to enter the gate of education. 。

In all, for the faculty who could have necessity to work outside academic, it will benefit to the instructing and teaching in college and university.(这结尾怎么变成完全同意了啊,根据你的文章不是这样啊)

教师在校外作工作可以充实和丰富教学内容:一个教教学法的大学老师如果不知道如何教中小学生就不会成为一个有效的教师;
教师到校外做相关工作有利於学生的学习:中小学生的学习任务是寻找兴趣并未接受高等教育作准备,大学生的任务是为社会服务并未自己寻找工作,因此学生不仅仅包括学还包括习---将知识运用与实际;
必须承认所有教师都到校外工作不不可行的:不是所有专业的老师都可以找到相关工作;不是所有的学科都需要到校外工作;不是所有的 教师都适合到校外工作;

If the faculty spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach, is it valuable or beneficial to the quality of instruction? The answer may be yes, however, not for the entire faculties, as the speaker alleges--这个词本来就是贬义词,所以是否定它.

The teachers who spend some considerate time working outside the academic world would broaden what they taught and bring new views and new methods to their teaching courses. A real teacher is not the one who only imparts the plenitude knowledge from book to students, but the one who could introduce new development of knowledge and knows how to apply the knowledge into practice. Take teacher education for example, if the teachers who teach pedagogy in college, but they do not know how to teach the students of elementary or high school,that is to say they have never had experience in such relative fields outside the acdemic, can he or she be effective to teach  the students major in education in college or university?-----我的意思是说大学教教学法的老师如果他们自己不知道如何教小学和高中的学生,就是没有相关经历,那么他们有如何培养未来的教师呢? Therefore, for these faculties, they need enough time to probe into such fields to know relevant knowledge which can not be found in the book. We all know that, for many disciplines, there is great discrepancy between what should be---we could know through reading book and what it is in fact ---we could only understand through practical. As 作为the teacher of college, what they should do is to tell the students not only what it should be but also what it is.---这一段从教师教师教学的角度对学生有好处

For the students, they could learn more from those who usually plumb into relevant professions, in other words, they would learn real knowledge which includes not only knowledge from the book but also includes the one from practice. The task of learning for the students in college and university is different from the elementary and high school students. The later ---中小学生who learn knowledge are mainly to find their inner interests and prepare for future higher education; while the former who learn is to serve the society and prepare for finding one job for themselves  three or four years later. Therefore, they should not only learn considerate knowledge, but also learn how to put these knowledge into practice.

Maybe the most suitable profession to work is in college and university---一些学科的老师很难找到相关工作,比如哲学思想研究比如尼采和叔本华的,最适合的工作就是在学校里面. Secondly, it is not necessary for all faculties to work outside the academic.For some teachers of certain courses such as basic mathematics and physics, theory deduction is perfect for them.  Thirdly, some people are not suitable for work outside the college and university. Take Einstein for example, if he were still a teacher of one university, we do not know which profession is more fit for him besides teaching and not giving him more time to conceive his theory.

Those who refuse admitting that the faculty should work outside in considerate time may be afraid that the teachers might be distracted from teaching and do harm to instructing.  Sounds reasonable, but such woory is reduntable if the teacher is arduous to teaching in college and university. These faculties would use such opportunity to improve the teaching and bring new blood to the course of instructing. For those who may be distracted from teaching or would choose the outside work, it is a good chance to let them leave away from the teaching position and let those who are truly interested in the jobs in colleges and universities to enter the gate of education. This will be positive to the instructing better than just limiting them in college.

In all, for the faculty who could and have necessity to work outside academic, it will benefit to the instructing  in college and university.For those who has not the capacity or it is unnecessary to work outside, we may not identially acclaim that all the faculty should work outside the acdemic.
