The objective view about one's achievements involves the knowledge and relevant societal information about the culture, historical background, and economic elements. More importantly, the unbiased attitude toward the person is also required. In this sense, holding more accurate data and more objective attitude, people in one's later ages will make a more objective judgment about the greatness of a person except for certain particular cases than his or her contemporaries do.
First, when they value what a person dedicate to the society, those who live after a person is more independent thus more impartial than his or her contemporaries. For example, Qinshihuang, the first emperor in Chinese history, unified the whole nation in terms of scale, money and character by conquering six other countries through bloody wars, after that the well-known Great wall was built with the cost of huge manpower under his direction. People at that ages did not regarded him as a great man but(a) ruthless and cold-blood one, because the war and the building of Greatwall directed by Qinshihuang left them in a restless world. However, people living thousands years later and standing in an indifferent position, just like us, view Qinshihuang as a great emperor due to the solid foundation in societal administration and military defense laid by his endeavor. (这段例子用的很恰当)
Second, with the increase of knowledge and the improvement of means of investigation in later ages, the judgment of the greatness of individuals is based on more facts, and more importantly(似乎有语法错误), the lasting influence of their contribution, so the resulting evaluation is more scientific and objective. Many great scientists, such as Newton or Einstein, failed to receive the deserved acknowledgment and respects during their times when there is no much evidence and means to substantiate and apply their theories. Yet when today's science develops into such a sophisticated level, with the aircraft based on Newton's gravity theory and the nuclear power based on Einstein's mass-energy equation, the greatness of these scientists is becoming more and more obvious and far-reaching. (举这两人的例子好像不是很恰当,他们在生前都已经受到了高的评价)
Admittedly, when it comes to the judgment of people in field where immediate results and analysis is automatically the final one,(?) such as in the business realm, the contemporaries will also be able to make an objective judgment about a person. The loss of profits in market competition or the depression of morale of employees will make the leader of the company less successful thus less great in his career since it is by an objective and unchangeable standard (in this case, the profit in business) that people in any time evaluate one company's leader.
In sum, Having more advanced knowledge and unbiased attitude, those who live in later ages is able to make objective judgments about the greatness of a person, while contemporaries can do that only in certain particular fields.
