TOPIC: ISSUE130 - "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."
WORDS: 547 TIME: 上午 0:45:00 DATE: 2006-7-21
According to the speaker, there are two main ideas included in his assertion. The first claim is that the destiny of society is determined by the socialization of children, not any other factors. The other one is we have not learned how to raise such socialized children as mentioned. As far as I see, I cannot agree with the speaker on either claim. My explanations are listed as follows.
Consider the first claim that how children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Undoubtedly, it is children, more often than not, compared to the morning flowers of the country, the pillar of the society, that would demonstrate what a later future we would have and how much and fast progress we will make in the following decade. Therefore, among all the populations of all ages, the children may be of the most significance to the development of the society, which makes it undeniable that we should try our best to bring up our children to a brighter future, with miscellaneous properties relating to success, such as persistence, faithfulness, honesty, confidence, industrious spirits.
Nonetheless, socialization is far more the mere factor for children to equip affecting the maturity of children, further affecting destiny of society. As far as I concerned, it is undoubtedly not the most important one. Some other aspects such as parental education, raw intellect, self-conviction, self-study capacity may influence the development of children in the process of maturity. As regard to which dominates the process, we should have a base-to-base analysis. Consider Abroham Lincoln for example, he is brought up with adversities, and with combating with these very adverse circumstances, he grew up more quickly and comprehensively than others, finally to the political leader of America, accomplishing his ambition. It can be said that it is the very adversities he ever faced that brought him up. Here socialization may have significance to some extent, but far more than the most important one.
When it comes to the second assertion that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society, I cannot agree with any sense. As the development of society, the education of children become more and more frequently mentioned topics, even put forward to the first thing by some parents. Obviously, means we utilize nowadays to educate children are far more sophisticated than our ancestors; almost all the junior and senior middle school students have all kinds of auxiliary studying tools to enhance and make interesting the process of acquiring knowledge, such as electronic dictionaries, personal computers and even family teachers. Those are so frequently seen phenomena that children cannot even undertake the load put on their neck. Moreover, psychological and physiological knowledge are laid much emphasis on by our parents and utilized in the process of education in order to make this process more efficient and sound. With regard to the respect to the country, more money is spent on the education of children than ever before, and better conditions and situations are created. So how can we deny their contributions to the education of children and say they have not learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better future.
Simply put, above two claims are both specious on my behalf. When it comes to the role of socialization of children on the destiny of society, socialization is not the mere factor affecting the destiny of children and further the destiny of society. And we have learned more about how to raise enlightened children who may be standing pillars of the society. The speaker may be over-anxious about the development of our children and hope my essay may eliminate his anxieties. |
