38. Learning about the past has no value for those of us living in the present. Do you agree or disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
----------------
There has been an aphorism that “history is the mirror of today”, which indicates that every person, organization, even country should show respect to what has happen in the past either relating them or not. Obviously, due to the former proverb, the statement sounds quite unpersuasive and less substantive that “learning about the past has no value for those of us living in the present”, on which I disagree at all.
Firstly, in the field of nature, all the fundamental principles remain the same from the past till nowadays. Though the appearance and conditions of the world have changed a lot in terms of, such as, the continent shape, the climate, and the catalog of flora and fauna, the rules in nature have altered little. Accordingly, only when we cogitate all the occurrences of yesterday carefully, could we find the basic laws out and put them into the practices of today. For instance, by the observation on the sky year after year, human fund out the relationship between the earth and sun and invented the calendar which proves to be credible and beneficial not only for every one at present, but also in future.
Secondly, in the field of social world, people would learn more from the past. Research shows that the history of human beings has developed in a spiral way and will continue. Taking the cycle law in the economic realm for example, after booming for several years, almost every industry will turn to be declining until it gets the nadir, and then it will be promoting into its prosperity era until it gets the summit. By discerning the phenomena and events in the past and probing the merits and fallacies of what we performed in the past, human beings would learn how to behave better and predict what are going to take place, which shows greatly instructive and valuable.
Thirdly, as for ordinary person, like me, learning about the past still deserves extolment. For example, if I failed in a test, I will recall why I performed well in earlier time, introspect what led to my failure this time, and how to act to achieve another success next time. Moreover, it still works when you get into other troubles, such as getting quarrel with your classmates or roommates.
In conclusion, we should learn about what occurred in the past, since history can be repeated sometimes, and we should get fully ready to face it in all the domains such as nature, society and everyday life. |
