Can scandals be useful? In my view, whether in politics, academia, or other areas, they are so effective and convincing in revealing social problems, that no reformer or speaker could compare, though sometimes their power is limited.

Scandals are useful, as a special expression of some problem, strongly and attractively hit into people's mind in a psychological way. We could hardly keep steady and unmoved in front of a scandal, for we are always be attracted by things amazing or sensational, just as we are willing to pay attention on news that we never hear before. It seems to use the weakness in the nature of human being that Scandal which well present some social problems could attracted the eyes of widest area, not only the social scalar, leader, intellect, but the whole public. There is an old saying that, good new can not go out of the door, while bad news fly over thousands of miles. In this era, the rapidly transmitting of information enables the scandal to spread all over the world just in a short period, grasping the eyes of the global people. Obviously, the widely public attention would be a strong force to supervise the government or the society to solve the problem quickly.

Not only attractive, the convincing of scandals is incomparable. Actions speak louder than words. Unlike the words of speaker or the study of some scholars, the scandal is lively true, destructing any doubting and unbelieving. It use the fact as the evidence, reveal the uncovered social problems or evils that threaten our lives. We may doubt the use of medical test in Olympic Games until the scandals comes out that some player use chemical drugs to enhance their ability; we may not believe the seriousness of AIDS in some country with the experts' warning until the report from the press that residents in a whole village are the victims of AIDS. Thereby, the problem revealed by scandals could be more reliable and convincing.

However, no matter how convincing and effective the scandal is, when it take the charge of revealing social problems, its use range are limited by the characters of itself. The scandals which are the extreme presentation of the existed social problems can only affective when the problem is already deep and harmful enough for the public to face with. Unlike the warning from the expert, who could foresee the problem in a early stage, when its harmful are not recognized by most people, the scandals act as the last blow of danger, waking people still unrealized. However, the waking sometimes is too late and we have to endure the tremendous loss which would be prevented if we cared about it much earlier. One good example is the event a peasant laborer's death in China. His death made the whole society recognize the poor condition of all peasant laborers in China that has been existed for many years.

In sum, the scandal is useful for its easily acceptable and spreading, attracting our attention on social problems. Also, they are more convincing and reliable as lively truth. Yet their function is limited as a result but not indicator of those serious problems, comparing to the admonition of reformer or speaker.
