Should all the faculty in college and university spend time working outside the academic world as the sperker cites? Albeit i agree that working in other realms outside academic world sometimes does good to the professors, however, the statement fails to account for the disadvantages of doing so.

Admittedly, working experance does good to the  professors' teaching activities of some subjects, because the purpose of education are not only tell the student how to do studies, but also how to contribute to the society from one's working in the companies, factories or other places. If a teacher just concerns about the academic reseach, he/she may not know the way to work I mean cowork with other people, then no matter how excellent the students are, they may not learn anything about how to work with their workmates. Lack of cooperation spirit, they are not able do any contribution to the society, especially in the modern society.

What's more, working outside academic world could also improve the professors' teaching activities. When a professor gain a job outside school, he may put what he/she mastered into use, then the theories will be modified during his/her operation. Thus when he/she put the experience into the class, what the students learn will be more practical. For example, a finance professor should take part in the stock market, which may help him/her concern about the update of his/her knowledges, and he/she may show the students practical skills instead of just academic knowledges.

However, not all the professors gain benefit from working experience. Some of the basic subjects need just academic studies. It is the scientific research that the most important to them. Their purpose is to cultivate the student into scientific researchers, even scientists. They need lab instead of working experience. For example the basic physical research. Professors just show all the theories that the former scientists have found, and task is to invent new theories as well as lead the college students to do research so as to make new discoveries.

In sum, not the professors of all the subjects have to gain a job outside the academic world, for many of them need a pure academic atmosphere, as well as some other professors need a chance to work out of school and obtain much experance concerning to their research or teaching work. The purpose of education is to teach the students  to contribute to the society, either in the way of working or academic research. Thus if we follow this purpose, we are doing the right things.
