150"Because of television and worldwide computer connections, people can now become familiar with a great many places that they have never visited. As a result, tourism will soon become obsolete."
Nowadays, television and internet are flourishing everywhere. People can stay at home instead of going out to travel, since more and more information about the different culture and scenery can be got from television or internet. However, as for the claim that the television will render tourism obsolete, we have sufficient empirical evidences that this will simply not happen.
On the contrary, television and internet may have actually served to spark people’s interest in visiting some wonderful places. Nowadays, more and more people realized that tourism is a prosperous industry to develop local economy, so they usually increase the investment in tourism and have lots of advertising through media such as television, internet, or paper and magazine. Then, people can easily attain the information which induces them to visit these places. For instance, a person caught a beautiful picture through internet, which makes a deep impress on him.
If a chance is available, he will go for traveling to the places where he might have dreamed for a long time. In this sense television and internet provide more opportunities for tourism, rather than replace.
Furthermore, the speaker unfairly assumes that the purpose of tourism is to obtain information about other people, places, or sceneries, so surfing on the internet can replace traveling difference places. If travel is just for attaining information, due to the advancement of telecommunication in the world wide, that will certainly decline. Today, people can completely do business through the internet, because traveling might only serve to waste lots of money and time which can be spent on more essential works. In recent years, internet becomes more and more important in doing business, whether the partners in a city or in two cities which might be in the other side of the world. So this kind of traveling only serve to gain information will increasing decline in the future.
Moreover, in my view tourism will continue to thrive for the same reason that people still go out for dinner or to the movies: we all need to get away from our routines and surroundings from time to time. Tourism is a manifestation of a basic human need for variety and exploration. Computer cannot alter this basic human need. Nothing can be more surprising and excitement than real experience the different that you might never have had.
To sum up, television and internet cannot be replaced tourism, once we breathe, we smile, we living, and then we will not change our preference- to experience the different-to traveling. |
