In the development history of art, both artists and critics have played a critical and indispensable role, which is irreplaceable(这里的先行词不知道是什么,is值得商榷). A heated controversial issue of the question concerning which one of the party(团体义吗,是不是要用复数), artist or critic, can bring the society with something of permanent value, exists for quite a long time almost since the initiation of art. As far as I am concerned, admittedly, never should we underestimate the crucial role of critics in the process of art progress; however, furthermore I also embrace the idea that it is artists who present our society with the great works of lasting value in the field of art.
To begin with, critics and commenter(commenters) introduce the meaning and outstanding significance of the art to the majority of the common people, consequently the artists' excellence and feats could be relatively easy to be acknowledged and recognized by the public. Common sense tells us that the common people have limited knowledge with regard to art; therefore a highly abstract expression of the artist's inner side(是内心世界?) is difficult for the public to appreciate. Fortunately, the existence of critics solves this issue appropriately, which not only transmits great art works to people, but also make the outstanding artists known to the world. For instance, an outstanding Spanish artist named Picasso, one of the founders of cubism painting, whose paintings are obscure and difficult for the common people to understand. Due to the analysis and criticism of the critics, people begin to understand the value and meaning of his work, which has profound influence in the history of art.
At the same time, critics are able to effectively promote the artists to improve themselves continuously with more pertinence, since bystanders are capable of finding the potential or existing problems more easily from different perspectives. Actually, the self-development of the artists is a never-ending process, and it is almost impossible for a artist' work to reach a level of absolute(absolutely) perfect. Meanwhile, the critics might provide some wonderful suggestions for the artists to better express their ideas and thinking.
However, in essence, the critics or reviewers could merely try to assess and evaluate those works of art as accurately as possible; with the evolvement of society, critics' attitudes might change to some extent based on the different social atmosphere, which is hard to be in accordance with each other. As a result, in some degree, it is hard to say that critics give the society something of lasting value.
What is more important is that it is artists, who create and accomplish the art works really and truly, ultimately endow the art works with enormous and lasting value. It is known that artists exert their effort to create work of art to express the inner side, the personal experience, thinking, inspiration and the pursuit of truth in a special way. Perhaps, after years' endeavor and creation, a mature work of art could come into the world. Sometimes, the obscure meaning or creative form of art might be beyond the contemporary capability of understanding. Under this circumstance, the art works might not receive the appreciations and admirations from the critics, which implies that a work with lasting value may be neglected for a certain period. Finally, with the development of society, the precious value and the profound significance will be realized by the critics and the public. For example, the celebrated, prominent and representative Dutch postimpressionist painter in the nineteenth century, named Vincent Van Gogh, did not receive recognition and appreciation from the public until his death. However the lasting value of the work does not disappear due to no recognition, and a few years later, the significant worth of the works of art are universally accepted by the society(按照你的推理,有价值的作品终有出头之日,只是时间问题,这也值得推敲,因为反过来说,大量被埋没的作品都是没有价值的。价值是一个作品的内在属性还是一种人为评价?).
To sum up, the role of critics is particularly important and indispensable in the development process of art, on the other hand, we should bear in our mind that it is artists who bring something of real lasting value to the society(艺术家给了价值,评论家也很重要,重要在哪里呢?). And the lasting value contains a lot of aspects--including the form of art used by artists to express their value and thinking, the observation perspective(这个说法有点别扭,何解) on life, etc.--which have permanent influence on both the art and the society.
