185 " Scandals whether in politics academia or other areas can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that do speaker or reformer ever could."

I agree with the speaker’s broad assertion that scandals in several fields incite people to pay much attention on some problems which are often ignored. However, as universally acknowledged, any good thing will become bad if going to its extreme, in other word, the speaker always emphasize the advantage the scandal bring about, while neglect some certain compelling overwhelming drawbacks, undoubted it is unjustifiable. My pinion of contention with the speaker involves the fundamental objection and nature of the scandal, as discussed below.

Scandal, a disgraceful gossip of about the private life of other people, may basic on the reality, or the false allegation, focus on the adverse effectiveness of diminishing people’s moral and harming people’ s spirit. However, every coin has two sides. For scandal, on the one hand, as the highlight, expose the one darkness aspect of the society and provide the opportunity for the common people to find the truth about some events and avoid such things repeat. Simultaneously it also just likes the obstacle to impede the society to get promotion and thrive. Only indicate scandal’s good sides and neglect the bad aspects, it is totally unfair.

I concede that scandal under some circumstance impel people’s attention on some hidden problems that generally hard to detect and help reform the situation. In the politics level, there is no better example than president Nixon associate with the Watergate, never before the history in the politics realm raised tremendous attentions and discussions about this issue. So powerful the scandal is that mass public concern the politician’s honesty, the justifiable about the selection. In this way, maybe to some extend, the society become more democratic and the politics become more transparent and just. Consider, another example, in the academia level, recently, it is reported that certain artificial professions take their students invents and the published in the public directly and others steal work from the original authors. Such egregious behavior involved into the whole national academic debates and enforce the government and association ban some laws and principals immediately, meanwhile people are pushed to get familiar with the specific field in this events and become the public supervisor imperceptibly. In short, scandals in other respect reflect the truth to the public; yet, enable people to become the supervisor to keep watch on the particular or common fields to prevent some serious unethical.

However, scandals in most cases distract us from more pressing community and society problems. Such as some source crisis, poverty, disaster and so forth, the public, especially the mass media pay great attention to the issue, when the scandals brought about regardless the time, money, energy, consuming. Actually, there are no meaningful function for expose these scandal in some events, not only to the society, to the mass public, but also most importantly to the individuals themselves. Among illustration of this truth that might be cited, the scandal about the President Coliton will furnish a cogent example. Admittedly to some special degree the sex scandal about Coliton remind people of focusing on the morality and the politician, besides, the importance of the leaders moral and personality towards and impact of the politician. Nevertheless, Coliton’s scandal draw numerous attention and incite the mass media to cram their brain to search some news , information to draw the people’s attention and then make great profit. Indeed, Coliton is also the victim and undergo the suffering which is exposing his privacy. No one is perfect. We should not excessive to impeach him, even president also inevitable to make some mistakes, after all he is a common person as we. Hence, the influence of the scandals harms a society a lot and prevents the society to get the significant progress and improvement.

To sum up, although scandals can tell the truth to the public about the politics, academia, and other expects, maybe in this way can minimize or even avoid some unfavorable or evil happened again, yet, we should concede the disadvantages the scandal aroused to the whole society or even deteriorate the entire welfare of the society.
