In the old time, nonmainsteam areas of inquiry play a important role in society, because we know little about natural phenomenon. In the modern time, nonmainstream also effect many aspects of the society, which cannot be satisfied by mainstream science.

Nonmainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits are developed to meet the need by human. This is why they exist in the world. Everything serve to human is for a certain demand, Nonmaintream science cannot be excluded. For example, in the old time, our ancestors have no idea to explain the phenomenon of comet, it is amazing for seeing that the comet pass by the earth. Astrology are used to provide that this is a sign of disaster. The people have no other choices but trust it, so when they saw the comet appear in the sky, they usually worried that something would happened to harm them. Meamwhile, mainstream science also didn't know that the comet is a ordinary phenomenon in astronomy.

As mainstream science are developing, nonmainstream is less important in some areas, but as attracting much attention as the passed time in others. For instance, noboby believe that the centre of universe is the earth, instead, they trust the fact that the earth we are living on is moving around the sun. Nonmainstream cannot persuade human that we are the most important part of the whole universe because of god love us. However, in other areas as there is a god, also deeply trusted by many person. The reason is that we need something occupy our heart, then we no longer feel alone. That is the positive effect made by nonmainstream science. From the example, it is not difficult to conclude that to some extend, human need nonmainstream science, even though they know it is not the fact or reality.

In addition, undue emphasized on the effects of mainstream may lead to a lot of problems. Fate theory is one of nonmainstream science, which is more harm to human than good. For example, a person didn't work hard in his or her undergraduate study and even he or she did not got the bachelor degree because of lacking some necessary credits hours. In the situation, it is difficult to find a good job. He doesn't realize his fault, but attribute the result to fate. It is absurd in my eyes. Another example, in the 18th century, blacks in USA were regulated that they did not have the same right in voting, receiving education and other fields with white men. Martin Luther King, who is a famous person for leading black movement, fought against the unfair law of regulating blacks. He did not believe this is their fate and they are born slave. King leaded many blacks to oppose the unjust law on blacks, and as a result the Congress passed the Civil Right Bill under the press of opposing. From the example provided above, mainstream also prevent the development of the society.

In sum, nonmianstream not only have positive effects on society and ordinary people, but also have negative effects. Some of them also play a vital role in society and also fulfill people's needs some of which cannot be engaged by the contemporary mainstream subjects.
