With the dramatic development of economy as well as technology, there seems to be a more severe conflict between tradition which stands for the past and modernization which stands for the future. As far as I am concerned, these two can actually work together very well, the only problem lies in people's disbelieving in the fact that they can handle the two altogether.

The conflict between tradition and modernization seems hard to unravel because we have not learned to deal with the two. Or in other words, we have not taught ourselves to treat them well. People's lives are replete with so fierce battles both at work and at home that they spare no time for other things. Then this conflict seems to be come great. A case in point can illustrate it well. A good car always need oil not only to let the engine run but also to make some parts compatible with each other, the axle for instance, needs oil to be better linked to the wheels. When people are busy and have not pay attention to this issue for a long time, then the axle and these four wheels will appear to be incompatible. Actually, tradition just serves as the axle that is stable and vital in your "driving"--both driving a car and driving your life. Those four wheels are moving fast and can embody modernization. When people forget to fill additive oil between them, confliction will surely come.

In fact, when perfectly matched, tradition and modernization can ''live” in harmony. Tradition will help modernization and vise versa. On one hand, tradition, sometimes defined as history, can offer us important guidelines and experiences. With tradition, modern people become familiar with methods their ancestors used to have in both work and family. How they deal with other people? What character they have to eventually ensure their success? How they manage to communicate and corporate well with other people. For example, people in the past 20th century used to have family get-togethers quite often to maintain core family relations and establish a firm foundation to hold and support people in front of difficulties. This tradition helps us a lot during modernization since people nowadays find themselves lost in the fast changing society and always feel hopeless when they have difficulties, and a steady family link will serves to be a fine solution. In this case, tradition makes modernization go ground.

On the other hand, only through modernization can we better understand our tradition. People in the contemporary society misunderstand our tradition in some aspects. A generation gap seems then an obvious and eventual result. People don not understand the tradition that people used to work on their own farms and refuse to trade their goods on large scale. Experts used to have no sound and logical explanations on this issue, but as modernization goes on, as we have worked out both proper theory and techniques to investigate into the past, people begin to realize that the real reason behind the issue, and therefore better understand the past, meanwhile, misunderstand disappears.

However, it is important that tradition and modernization can be compatible, but if we let tradition limit our scope and eventually hinder modernization, it will be unwise. Actually, all cars we build never let their axles hold the wheels. Therefore, people should first determine whether tradition or their nowadays experience work well on the problem they face, and choose a better one to follow. Or they choose tradition in some cases and also turn to modern society for help. Only in this way, our car of life can move faster with a steady axle and flexible wheels. Harmony is no easy thing but we have to make efforts to achieve it.
