To solve the world's most persistent social problems, the speaker claims that all nations should help support the development of a global university. As far as I am concerned, I fundamentally agree with the speaker. However, we must admit some problems with the process.

On the one hand, I strongly agree with the assertion. In today's complicated and rapidly changing society, coupled with globalization, people throughout the world are facing more and more problems which relate not only to one particular country but several countries even all the world. Such problems as environment pollutions, ozone layer, nuclear threat, racial prejudice, religion conflict and so forth would be solved only when the world is united. However, in fact, now distrust between different countries retards the process of solving these problems. Conflict even war lasting for many decades between Israel and the Muslin world is a good example to illustrate that. If they could think about the problem from each other's angle, I am sure that they will replace hate and conflict with peace and friendliness. So, how could we arrive at this destination? A global university designed to engage students from different countries may deal with this matter well. In the university, they can learn more about others, leading to more understanding among them and then caring more about others so conflicts will be eventually reduced. In a word, this kind of university would contribute to the understanding between each other and help solve the persistent social problems.

On the other hand, however, we must acknowledge that distinctness among different countries are obvious, varying from cultures to economical condition. Each country has its own concerns. For example, America cares more about the development of economy and  balance between it and environment; however, the African countries still have many conflicts between countries and within the countries, in the meantime, hunger and diseases exist all over the continent, so they concern more how to sopite these problems. Then the new problems come as that the university should research more about whose concerns, the research outcomes should be adopted by all countries. In short, many problems need to be resolved once the university is set up.

Moreover, the final settlement of the world's most persistent social problems needs not only a university but also more other endeavors. For instance, leaders of all countries should understand each other and deal with matters from the global eye rather than caring about their own countries' interests. In addition, people should learn more about other cultures through whatever means such as television, books or films. Many other methods should be adopted to solve the global social problems. All in all, I think it is not enough by only setting up a university.

There are some other aspects related to the issue, nevertheless, I think these factors mentioned above could adequately demonstrate my view. From what has been discussed above, we may come to the conclusion that although supporting the development of a global university would help to enhance the confidence between people of different countries and then decrease conflicts, it is not enough for the final settlement, and there are many other means should be utilized. Anyway, let's try our best to promote the process of solving the global social problems, and I believe they will be solved at last.
