Laws, body of official rules and regulation, found in legislation, constitution and jurisdiction are used to govern a society and control the member’s behavior. Obeying just law undoubtedly is the responsibility of every citizen, however, I deem that, just as the speaker says, disobeying and resist unjust laws is more important, which may facilitate the development of society.

First of all, whether a law is just or unjust is determined by people’s personal interest and judging standard. Different people may have their individual value which influenced by their culture, faith, circumstance and so forth. Among all illustrations of this truth which might be cited, the abortion furnishes a cogent example. As we know, abortion is widely accepted in western countries such as American, England, and France etc as a common phenomenon of people’s daily life. Nevertheless, when comes to Arab countries which are mainly dominated by Islam, abortion may seem extremely illegal and evil in that they believe the mothers do not have the right to deprive the infants’ life according to their sacred religious faith. At the same time, more conflicts and crashes concerning value system may exist.

Although, different culture or value system may lead to different perspectives on just and unjust laws, the point that laws are the precondition of a stable and orderly society is undisputable. Law serves a variety of functions. Law against crime, for example, help to maintain a peaceful, orderly, relatively stable society. Property and contract laws facilitate business activities and private planning. Laws limiting powers of government help to provide some degree of freedom that would not be possible. In case there is no limitation of various laws, our circumstance and society will be in a chaos. The case of transportation law adds great weigh to this reasoning. Can you imagine what will be on the road and highways, if there is no law or regulation about speeding and driving direction? It is entirely possible that a car which is as high as 200 km/h crashes with a truck with 150 km/h in the same lane. Then the whole highway will be lost of control. Therefore, every individual should comply with the laws so as to keep the society stable and harmony.

However, as Jefferson, former American president, said (and I paraphrase) “no society can make perpetual constitution, or even a perpetual law.” Many laws and rules are biased and fallacious, which predestined to be overturned. These laws to some extent will impede and inhibit the development of the society. Thus disobedience and resistance of the law is necessary and worthy. Martin Luther king, the civil leader, He described himself as a “extremist” for American black’s fair, right and reverence. To break through the segregation His endeavor greatly challenges the conventional law system in American and forced the authority to revise the laws which grant them the same civil rights consequently. Needless to say, the Afro-American would still have to sit in the back of the bus even today, if it were not for the endeavors against the unjust laws. Simply put, by the resisting the unjust laws, advocating the authorities to revise them, and finally granting all the people with just laws, people could live a more fair life than ever before.

In generation, since obeying laws not matter just or unjust precondition the stable and orderly society, disobeying and resisting the unjust laws to some extent is more vital for our society, facing unfair and oppression, for it will prompt and facilitate the development of our time.
