The writer of the medical newsletter asserts that in order to shorten the recuperation time all patients should take antibiotics as part of their treatment. To support this assertion the arguer based on a control experiment that first group of patients took the antibiotics and the recuperation time is shorter 40 percent than other group of patients who took suger pill as alternative. This argument reies on a series of unsubstantiated assumptions,  and is therefore weak as it stands.

A threshold fallacy that the writer commits is lacking necessary information about the control experiment. The arguer does not provide persuasive evidence about the comparison of the two group that might weaken the conclusion of this argument. It is entirely possible that the physical condition of the first group members who took antibiotics were be better than the second group members who took no antibiotics. Or, perhaps in the first group patients average age were younger than the comparing group, which result in the shorten of recuperation time. Either scenario can provide a alternative explanation for the shoren of recuperation time in first group who took antibiotics.

In the second place, even assuming that the two groups in experiment are equal in patients conditions. The fact that two groups of patients were treated by different doctor in different fields makes the result of the experiment unconvincing. Maybe the Dr.Newland who speciallized in sports medicine know the muscle strain better than Dr.Alton, a general physician, and provided some effective exercises plan for his patients to recover.

Granted that the factor of doctor do not affect the result of the experiment, there is no evidene indicate that sugar pill effect is postive or negative to patients recovery. It is possible that it was the suger pill which prolonged the recperation of patients in the second group. Without confirming the suger pill's effect, it is unfairly to conclude that the result of short recuperation time is due to antibiotics.

Last but no least, admittedly, taking antibiotics is helpful to shorten the recuperation time. the arguer does no consider possible differences among all the patients who suffering from muscle strain. It is possible that some kinds of patients are allergic to antibiotics and after taking antibiotics, the allergic reaction will badly hurt patients' health.

Without knowing the total number of the two groups, the representative of 40 percent presented in this article is open into doubt.

All in all, to persuade us the writer should provide information about age, physical conditions, and number of the patients in two groups, and treatments of the two doctors.  Without knowing patients allergic history of antibiotics, it is doubtful to conclude that antibiotics should be well advised to all the patients who diagnosed with muscle strain.
