When people come across the question: whether beginners or experts are more likely to make important discoveries, they are easily misled into a dilemma. On one hand, beginners are full of energy and curiosity, which make them more enthusiastical to pursue the truth. While on the other hand, experts always have more experience, which prevent them from false methods and ways happened before. In my point of view, there is no certain conclusion that which of them would be more likely to make discoveries, and all the factors affected are two-edged weapons, propelling and preventing for the discoveries depends on individuals' attitude.

When talking about beginners, people always recall some words like energy, enthusiasm, curiosity, creativity and courage. I have to concede that all these qualities are valuable for great discoveries in any fields of inquiry. However, do all these qualities only belong to beginners? Obviously, the answer is no. As the matter of fact, most great explorers have these valuable qualities no matter when they are beginners or experts. For instance, Cantor is one of the greatest mathematicians in history of science, for that he established the fundamental of entire mathematics system. But his immortal theory--set theory was published when he was old and soon received critical objection from the whole fields of mathematics. It can be said that there is no one in the world that receive his theory. However, his courage and belief make him adhere his theory persistently, and enthusiastically went on his work until the last moment of his life. After he died silently and lonely, people gradually realized the greatest theory in human intellectual inquiry, and have to concede the great creativity of Cantor. In this sense, the immortal discovery needs enthusiasm and creativity and courage as the fundamentals which not only exist in beginners mind.

While when it comes to another valuable quality for discoveries--experience, it seems that it can provide both benefits and drawbacks as well. In common sense, experts are full of experience which helps them away from the incorrectness that processors have ever experienced. However, the valuable experience belonged by experts often plays negative role in great breakthrough. The most famous mistake of experience made by experts may be the earth-center theory. No one could deny that Aristotle is a great sage of human, however, it is the experience that the sun rose and fell everyday which misled him to a false conclusion that the earth was the center of the universe. This may be the baggiest mistakes that human ever committed. It tells us experience is not always correct, if an expert emphasizes his experience to a great extent, he/she would be conservative to make any breakthrough. In certain sense, the process of development of science is the process that human gave up the old experience and established the new one, and subsequently gave up by offsprings. From this angle, the valuable experience owned by experts is not so valuable as it appears. It always prevents the breakthrough that obeys it.

As discussed above, both valuable qualities owned by beginners and experts either not merely belong to them or may have two-edged effect. Thus there is no certain answer for that which of them are more likely to make important discoveries. In fact, whether make an immortal breakthrough is dependent on the attitude to these valuable qualities. If experts maintain the endless enthusiasm for the unknown, preserve the curiosity to the puzzles in nature, relatively take advantage of experience they have, and spare no effort to delve and probe, great achievements would be attained by them. Simultaneously, if the beginners could be modest to consult for experts and analyzing in his/her own brains, take advantage of the great creativity, they also may achieve a lot. Thus no certain conclusion is there about whom, but there is a conclusion about how.

In a nutshell, both beginners and experts may achieve great fruition and make immortal discoveries. It depends on the attitude towards the qualities they have.
