In the realm of the art, critics have played an important role on the art works. However, relating to the issue of creating the art works with lasting value, the artist is unchangeable to make such contribution.
Admittedly, critiques made by critics can be seen as a positive factor in the development of the art. On the one hand, critics can help people better evaluate and appreciate those art works. The talent artists with the most advanced ideas often provide us with supreme but incomprehensible art works. And the critics who are endowed with much more familiar with the aesthetic value can fully evaluate the immortal value in those art works and help us to grasp the pith in them. As, Van gogh, the most preventative artist of the post- impressionism, left us with numerous valuable art works which can not be understood by the contemporaries. With the evaluation of the critics, people gradually accepted the value of his works. On the other hand, critiques of the critics can functions as the catalyst to help the artist make great progress. It is the critique by Henry Michaux confirming the value of the inking paint that made the Wuji Zhao, one of the most famous painter in China, be more confident about his works and promote him to create more valuable art works.
However, such functions of the critics are just the supplementary factors in the process of value creation, which can not supersedes the primary, that is the creative ideas and passion of the artists them selves. Though, it is true that the value in the art works of Van Gogh will not be soon discovered by the mass, the value had been already made and would be lasting exceeding the limit of the time and space, which would eventually recognize by the majority. Though, the critiques of Henry Michaux help the painter be confident with himself, the creative mind and the passion in the process of the creation can not be supplied by the critiques and these are all belong to the one who can make the lasting value.
Moreover, some artists just make the lasting value without the help of the critics, and those kinds of lasting value can be easily seen by the majority. Almost everyone have an aesthetic mind and have the experience, which may pass by quickly before we fully feel it, of grasping the beauty of the nature or other realm of existence. It is the virtue of the artist with the acuminous aesthetic mind to fully grasp such beauties and show them in their art works easily leading to the sympathetic response to such kinds of beauty by audience. It is common for any of us have the beautiful experience when we see the sunset, which may be, however, soon disappeared. And the artist, as Monet, can embed those feeling into his work-sunset, which help us to remind of such experience and made it immortal. So the creation of this lasting value and the appreciation of it do not be influenced by the critique.
Also, some forms of sculpture art aiming at maximally reflecting the shape of the real obstacles can also have the lasting value without the help of the critics. David, the famous art works of Michelangelo, has been admired by people for about five centuries, as the lusty body, the handsome appearance and the strong determination conveyed from the sculpture are enough to be lasting forever that any critiques about such sculpture would seem to be redundant.
In sum, it is the artist rather than the critic the very man to make the lasting value.
