The speaker asserts that the study has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives. However, history, as a social science, like natural science, its value is beyond the tangible value observed in our daily lives. Therefore, I do not agree with the statement that the value of history study resides on its relevance to our daily lives.
To begin with, to my understanding,[这里2个to 看得不是很舒服,可以把信号词换一下] the history has its value on two aspects, it helps human understand how their society operates better on the one hand, and prepares more advisable policies and decisions about social development on the other hand.[on the one hand, it helps human understand the operation of their society, on the other hand, it prepares more advisable policies and decisions about social development.][感觉这样写好一点] History events (which consequentially shape the life style today)have impact on the [path of the development][developmental path] of human society. [And they consequentially shape the life style today.用从句比较好] By studying history, one can acquires knowledge on the profile of the modern society and the source of such profile. In addition, history equips up with insight of the underlying force of social movement. Overall, with historical knowledge, one may have [a] more insightful [of the ] structure, reacting behavior and developing trends [about][of] the community [that] we are living in. Such knowledge is closely relevant, though indirect and its advantages are easily ignored by people, to[in] our daily lives.
Moreover, one should not deny the value of historical study in improving contemporary national and international affairs. History study is often dubious on its effect on future policy and decision. [Many would hold that even we learn facts in the past proficiently, we do not become smarter.什么意思啊] For example, according to the historical records, we know that wars are too expensive for human being that even the so-called winner [in a war] suffers heavily [in a war]. The painful experience of world war one was still very fresh while the world war two began. Nevertheless, such argument exacts history and understates inherent weakness. [That learning history does not prevent all bad things does not mean that history does no help to diminishing the incidence of bad things and how bad they are. ][这句话用了3个does, 觉得这样写好一点] [Learning history that cannot prevent all bad things does not represent function of history is useless nomatter how awful the things already are]Human [are] has inherently weakness such as aggression and greed, which can not be overcome[d] by simply recognized them in the history books.
Finally, the value of historical study is not determined by its relevance to our daily lives. Historical stories, background and characters provides good material to the movies, novel, music and so on for entertaining purposes. Such value is clearly close to our daily lives. However, it is not indispensable to human being. Imaginative human is able to create stuff for substitution. However, the value of history to prevent tragedies like wars is critical to human being. [Scientist Nobel 这个看得别扭]who invented explosive used to believe that the cost of the powerful explosive is so forbidding that it would bring human peace. However, it turns out to be wrong. Nowadays, we think that the titanic nuclear weapons would keep us in a knife-edge balance and thus peace. Should we wait and experience [it] on ourselves? The cost of such experience is so huge that a bit help from history is invaluable.
In sum, as discussed above, the natural of history study suggest that the value of itself does not relying much on its relationship with out daily live[life]. Like science, history presents truth and contributes improvement of human welfare.
PS:下次写把提纲列出来, 看得清楚一点`
