Admittedly, the groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten do play a role in the significant events and trends. However, the statement that those historic events and trends were not made by the famous few is real or not is shown in the examples of reform and revolution, science, and wars.

There is no denying the fact that, not only the famous few cannot determine and make important events by themselves but they cannot influence the history to any direction they so choose. One telling example involves the famous Chinese leader--Sun Yat-sen. Sun Yat-sen, who is one of the most influentially revolutionary leaders, had a dream to establish a new republic and capitalist China. Although he devoted his whole life to Chinese revolution, due to the people were not awaking and he could not get support to the majority people, at last, he passed away and left an unrealized dream.

However, to a large degree, individuals do indeed influence the history deeply and far-reachingly. Several examples of science serve to support this point. Newton, formulated the laws of gravitation and motion law that explain the objects move on the Earth as well as through the heavens, and his revolutionary contributions which explained the workings of large part the physical world. One even more striking example involves Einstein and his theory of relativity. Einstein, who is the winner of Nobel, was well known as his special and general theories of relativity. Because of his contributions in the quantum nature of light, molecular motion, and theory of relativity, was regarded as one of the world most famous and influential scientists of all time.

Moreover, when comes to the field of war, the speaker's claim is further shadowed by the record. For example, Napoleon, who is the one of the greatest commanders, ever conquered the most of Europe. I really cannot imagine if there were no Napoleon what would happen in Europe in the early 18th century. Another example involves Hitler and the notorious war. Hitler hoped to conquer the whole world, and for a time dominated the most of Europe and North Africa. He wanted to get the purity among German people, and caused the slaughter of millions of Jews, and many others, of who were regarded as inferior by him. I doubt if there were no Hitler, the world war two would not happen.

In short, in some extent, as the statement asserted, the groups of people influence the development of history. However, the statement that intended individuals were not responsible for the significant events and trends is too absolute to be true. As the majority of people influencing the history, the famous few play a dominated role in the course.
