好像就是MIS吧..

斑竹,这个专业偏技术还是管理呀?刚才有的帖子中说,这个information system不好找工作,那这个是不是也不好找工作呀?

这个没有定论，各校对这个专业的课程设置不同，只能看你申请的是什么学校的这个专业，然后自己发信去问program

MIS找工作是比较容易的，这点是肯定的

我现在了解得怎么是MIS都在缩减，很多学校的MIS PHD很难找工作 (academic而言)。
请问kevin你说的需求量大是industry 还是academic?

there are 211 MIS PhD students who graduated in 2005 and 2006. 104 got faculty position in academic area, 67 of which were accepted into the position in third-tier and fourth-tier university with average salary of $74,618. on the other hand, 62 found jobs in industry with the average salary of $98,254.

you can find some useful information at salary.com and the website of US Dept.of Labor and Stat-USA(Dept.of Commerce)

business schools are lacking in faculties in a very large amount. so, no matter what your major is, you will find a faculty position as long as you are willing to pursue an academic career.

But why is the MIS discipline shrinking? Why do people I know (both PhD students and faculty) say there is a surplus of MIS students but a scarcity of jobs?

as far as I know, in the short run, the demand for MIS will not be depressive. however, some professors said that there is a high probability that department of MIS @ business school will be merged with other depts.

Yes, I heard the same thing. Maybe MIS is going to be merged with Decison Science or Operations Mangement.
BTW: Is it difficult for a MIS PhD to find a job in first-tier or second-tier universities?

it seems to be difficult 'cause a lot of MIS programs at 1st and 2nd tie institute would prefer PhD graduates from engineering, maths, and CS programs. there is a sufficient supply for professionals from these three areas, and their commitment and knowledge makes sense.
