Taking a glance at the ground, I know I am not standing on the back of a huge tortoise, which is thought thousands of years ago. I can agree with the speaker that the way we perceive the world is altered by the study of academic disciplines. However, I think the world itself is also changed. After studying a discipline, we will see a different world with different eyes.


The study of academic disciplines gives us different eyes by providing both powerful tools and new perspectives. The powerful tools, such as telescopes and microscopes, enable us to see further and smaller. We can see craters on the moon with the help of telescopes and then we give up the romantic imagination that there is a Moon Palace with a beauty Chang Eh living in it. If there is no microscope, we have no chance to know cells. Since cells are discovered by microscopes, biology has been developed significantly and now it is common sense that most lives are made up of cells. Academic studies also make us perceive the world from various angles of view as well as different levels. For a small child, a rose is just a beautiful flower. When he/she has got some literature knowledge, he/she knows rose is a word of 'love'. After studying botany, he/she will probably consider the reproductive function of rose. As studies going forward, they will never stop to change the way we perceive the world.


Academic studies bring us new tools, new perspectives, as well as a new world. During studies, we will inevitably leave our own marks in the world. Moreover, we have created so many new things from none. While the ancient dream and can only dream to fly in the sky, we can now fly in planes. We study meteorology and have managed to make artificial rain. Since we find the nature of electricity and study electrical science, the world has been greatly changed. Electrical light, washing machine, television and air conditioning have all made the world different. In biology laboratories, you may find a fruit fly with legs on its head, a zebrafish with an extra head or even a mouse with an ear on its back. They have never been in the world but simply created. The study of academic disciplines is proceeding and the world is being changed.


Anyway, the goal of studying academic disciplines is not only to understand the world better but also to change the world so that human can lead an easy life. Therefore, it is no surprise academic studies give us different eyes as well as a new world.
