Issue70 【Persistence小组】第13次作业
The author suggests that in any profession the leaders in power should step down (in a fixed time), and the effective way for success is revitalization through new leadership. I disagree with it, for it is unpersuasive. In my view, even the new leaders perform better in many respects, ignoring the old ones effect, we cannot draw such conclusion as the author's assertion.
Admittedly, the new leaders have their advantage(s) in vigor, activity and creativity, whereas, in which aspects the old ones are impotent. In the intensely social competition, certain careers require more new leaders, bring about the fresh thoughts, to steer the enterprise in the &&waving social sea for greater exploits and profits. For example, in business, after China entered WTO, some of the younger companies succeed in the foreign enterprise's challenge. Obviously their successful survive from international competition is not based on abundant funds,but the courage in facing frustrate and challenge- the so-called "young spirit"- both caused by foreign stress. While, to the contrary, some nation traditional enterprise, driving by old leaders, whose funds and scale is superior to the young ones, fails in the competition. Under the same or a little worse circumstance, the young spirit which new leader owns may play a crucial part in some profession.
On the other hand, though the old leader does not possess more vigor and creativity than the new one, his or her experience in the certain field can be a quantity of treasure which will be more effective. Experience, accumulated generate(generation) by generate, can be a wonderful reference when handling the situations, similar to what occupied(occured) before. Taking education for example, a schoolmaster who is rich in experience of educating students will think meticulously it- making developing plans- over for the school and students. They can adjust the curriculum provision by the reflection of students' acceptation, or decide the direction, based on the present situation, for school’s future. In such case, experience is practical and useful, contrast with the specific characters standing for the young spirit, and then we conclude that old leaders can be the unshakable core.
Finally, instead of taking a uniform criterion to weight whether a leader is suitable, we should appoint the right leader who will possibly lead his or her team to reach the final success in term of the current condition. As the examples discussed above, in education the old one is popular, whereas, in business, the new one may perform better. Certain situation and profession determines whether use old leader or new one.
In summary, without the old leader, some aspects which require experience will develop in not a straight direction but zigzag; without the new one who brings the fresh method and idea, many professions may fall into deadlock. The surest path to success for any enterprise is not revitalization through new leadership but choosing the leader wisely.
