TOPIC: ISSUE214 - "Society should identify those children who have special talents and abilities and begin training them at an early age so that they can eventually excel in their areas of ability. Otherwise, these talents are likely to remain undeveloped."

Should we identify talented children and begin to training them when they are young, for the purpose of fulfill their ability of their area? Insofar as it is a society emphasis talents more than ever, my contention is that we should find these favored children and try to make their ability into full bloom. Whereas, extending this broad assertion to an irreversible trend might otherwise defeat its own purpose.

To begin with, a child's talent without discovering and leading is anything but pearls in unopened oysters. Fail to encourage them to make use of their gift, they will lose it evidently. Imagine a child gifts for music has never got a chance to see a single instrument or hear a complete song, there's no possibility for them to develop it. As an illustration, Mozart as a child was a widely known for his gift for music. Owing to the insistence of his father to disinter his ability, he luckily began to study music at an age of 3. From then on, he had grown into one of the world greatest classic musician and had never been separated with music in his following days.

Though developing children's ability can do them good, on no account should we conclude that forcing our children to learn too much can benefit. As we know, the inherent characters of children prevent them from sitting at the table, learning all day long, or focusing on a particular thing for too long. Thus, to force them to develop their ability may become a process full of pain. Many talented young men who were expecting highly and therefore learn too much finally turn into a normal person, if not worse. There is also a possibility that the child does not interested in what he is gifted for. Such as my neighbor's little boy, who was identified to have a good sense in math at an age of 7, since then he was insist to do a avalanche of math exercises at home and was forbidden to play with his fellow children. He becomes taciturn and even seems dumb. Once he told me that he hate math and would prefer to be a normal child. Children who are coerced to learn can easily reverse their interesting at first. What’s more, childhood is the cornerstone of a man's life, and a crucial moment to develop their emotion as well as intelligence. Pushing them too hard may counteract parents' original wish: Nothing can compare to be brought up happily and mentally healthy, even the surprising ability they have gained.

As discussed above, we are now facing a dilemma: which one should we choice? A sullen genius or a healthy child? In effect, the two facets are not mutually exclusive. With a pleasant environment, and a little bit encourage and leading, children with special talents may have a chance to grow up according to our expectation: a sufficient development both in intelligence and in emotion. As parents and teachers, we should provide them the opportunities to communicate with peers as well an extra course on enhancing their favored abilities. Having the admission to play as they want, talented children will surely become willing to learn, just as the many cases experts have conducted. Specially gifted children, with this education method above, developed better than those who are treated like adults.

To sum up, the issue of whether we should begin training talented children at an early age is a complex one. However, due to the analysis and reasons mentioned above, we can safely draw to the conclusion that training these children in a correct way can ensure them to grow up with their especial abilities, and their normal emotion.

一个显而易见的缺点:最好不要举身边的例子,没有说服力
