The author concludes that the study of history should place more emphasis on groups of people other than the famous few. Though I agree with the author that the history can not make progress without groups of people, I strongly concede (多用于后面有转折的让步) that the study of famous individuals should not be neglected.
On the one hind , it is the group of people who have improved the history (不妥) significantly. As we know, the trends are founded among the residents and locals in each country. Without the whole people's participation (形象!) , no any trend can be formed. But the information has been remote from our eyes because of overlooking the importance of the common records about average people. (好) Take the folk culture as an example. As an essential part in the study of history, the folk culture can tell us people's admiration, custom, condition and even, indirectly, the whole surrounding world's status - since people can find the society's disadvantage in folk culture's lust for gods, and will know the society's advantage in folk culture's congratulation in art work. (不用过多陈述events的影响,主要是看下面的groups) Admittedly, a giant amount of records of folk culture have disappeared because of the neglect of the importance of information of average people. Meanwhile, we should know (no,前面讲的是folk的优点,没有过多涉及folk跟group的关系) that any essential events such as revolution in the history can not be accomplished without the endeavor of the giant range of people who have participated in these events. For example, in coup of 18 Brumaire, though it is Napoleon who initiated the revolution and founded the French First Republic then, the soldiers were the indispensable strength of Napoleon who supported his battle against Directory Government. (例子不错,总结一下效果会更好) Consequently, if historians want to comprehend a more detailed and well-rounded history, it is needed to place emphasis on the whole group of people and prevent the identities and information of them from disappearing continuously.
On the other hind (难道是hand?) , it is the famous few who present the most significant events and trends. Take the folk culture for example similarly. In art, obviously, it is the famous artist who has created astonishing pictures and movements which have caught the eyes of each people closely and played a key role as the symbol of the cotemporary culture. (明晰) Moreover, without these great artists' devotion, the folk culture probably dimmed in the history without recordation and depiction by their hands. Also, in literature, it is the poets and writers who spread the culture in each small area to the broad world which ultimately urged the formation of trends. Meanwhile, take revolution as an example. It is the great leader who planed and generated the revolution. Without their courage and leadership, it is hard to organize the disorder and unsystematic crowd to overthrow the control (topple) of crucial emperor. Moreover, arising from the influential well-known notability – not only the winner but also the failure – their information got the chance to be spread to a larger scale throughout the world. Then, more people knew about the notabilities, more documents for their stories or events relevant to them are inclined to be created and preserved. So, there is no excuse to leave these representational documents being wasted.
Consequently, on the basis of that a certain society is not only composed of a giant crowd of humans, but also is symbolized by the highlights in the crowd, the study of history can not be fairly studied if historians neglect either famous individuals or groups of people.
