212. "If a goal is worthy, then any means taken to attain it is justifiable."
如果一个目标是值得的，那么为达到该目标所采取的任何手段都是合理的。

1、  不同人的价值观不同，判断一个目标是否值得也就有差异，首先要符合法律准则
2、  如果这个目标及其实现的过程不损害他人的利益, ok
3、  如果这个目标违背了眼前利益但符合人类长远利益，ok

It is asserted that any means taken to achieve a goal which is worthy is justifiable. However, I consider this idea to be too arbitrary to refer to all cases. As for different persons, the standpoints are different which results in that the judgment whether a goal is worthy or not varies a lot.

Fundamentally, a goal worthy of pursuing should comply with the laws. There are no square and circularity if there are no compasses and rulers, which is just as the case of nation. A nation is never formed without certain laws to regulate the civilians. As for us civilians, we are required to comply with the laws whatever we do. No matter how just we regard our deeds, we can never do illegal things. For example, there is a ideal world in Chinese minds called “wulin”, in which people use those Chinese “gongfu” to revenge malicious people or kill those who have killed others. People there all consider that their deeds are to help the common people and are good for the society, which drives them take any means to achieve the goal. They kill the malicious people, rob them of their assets and give out the assets to poor common people. It is obvious that they reckon the goal of killing these people to be worthy of their kill. However, what they have done helps little to improve living level of the common people. Instead, the killing just brings about more killing deeds and leads the society to a chaos. Thus, it is necessary that whatever we do should accord with the laws of the society, which can guarantee the stabilization of the society.

What is more, if a goal and its process of being carried out do no harm to anybody, the goal is worthy of taking any action to achieve it. As it varies a lot for different people whether a goal is worthy for different people have different interests, to carry out a goal should never harm anybody’s interest to avoid confliction. For example, some factories let their liquid waste go into rivers, which is resource of other people’s drinking water. It is true that the factory can save a lot of money to dispose of the liquid waste and thus it is worthy for them. However, it has deprive the interests of those people who drink the water from this river. In this case, the action considered to be worthy by the factory is harmful to others, which makes it unjustifiable to do like this.

In addition, even if a goal does no good to contemporaries or even is bad for them, but on the other hand, the goal has a long-term interest to leave the benefits for our offsprings, it is justifiable to taken the actions which are not accepted by the contemporaries to achieve it. Just think about the example that the project being carried out in China. Millions of people are required to move away from their homes, which are along the changjiang river, to another unacquainted place to settle down to leave the room for the three-channel project. The project has obviously do harm to those people a lot and thus it should have been complained of and stopped by the people. Instead, the people there have no complaints and move away quickly. It is understood that the project is helpful, once completed, to all the people around the nations as well as later generations for hundreds of years. The long-term interest ensures the goal worthy of sacrifice some people’s interests.

In sum, there is several qualifications to draw the conclusion that we can take any means to attain a goal, and as is addressed above, the goal should be according with the laws, having no harm to others or it may bring about long-term benefits.
