在生活的各个领域-无论是学术、社会、商业还是政治-成功的唯一途径就是采取实际而并非理想化的观点。注重实效的行为确保生存，而理想化的观点倾向于被更简单、更直接的选择取代。

2、  商业领域，是追求利润的领域，注重实效
3、  政治领域，注重实效的行为更能赢得人民的拥护，但理想化的观点也能被人民所理解

In any realm of life, there are some people who devoted themselves in the idealistic goals while plenty of people focus themselves on the pragmatic problems. In my point of view, the discussion whether idealistic or pragmatic views lead to one’s success depends on certain areas considered.

In the academic area, while pragmatic views can lead to huge success, idealistic views can also bring about that. As is known to all, pragmatic views can impel one to devote himself in the areas in which profits are eyeable. In such cases, people get profits more quickly than those who are engaged in idealistic views. However, such example does exist in the academic history. Take Einstein for an example, who is one of the most outstanding physical scientists in the world. He never gives a glimpse of the pragmatic problems such as whether atom can be divided. Instead, he focuses all his attention on the problem in association with light, time and space. Plenty of scientists accomplished their research in those pragmatic areas while Einstein still has a great many questions in his own scientific world. However, he ultimately achieves his goal to explain the theory of relativity by which he was awarded the Novel Prize. Although it costs more years than other scientists to accomplish his research, Einstein’s success is much greater than the others’ at the same time.

As for the business area, which is a world aiming at profits, pragmatic behavior has almost superseded idealistic behavior. In the cruel business world, one little delay may become a large mistake and may cause people never to recover. Idealistic views, which are not appropriate for the realism, can push a rich person into the abysm of poor life. For example, if a manage of a company wants to stabilize the location of his company in the business world, his every single step will bring benefit for his company. Any realistic views such as contributing all his money to the charity fund can not be accepted. Just imagine the results of that. Once the company had insufficient capital to operate normally, it would lack money to take any action to save itself, and would be swallowed up by other company in the end. Business never allows such extramundane actions to exist even though they can bring benefit in the future.

While in the political area, both pragmatic and idealistic views can be favored by the people, which depends on the aim of the view. For example, the fight against terrorists are fairly favored by the civilians around the world, because such pragmatic actions get effect instantly in protecting common people from the injury by the terrorists. On the other hand, it is accepted by the people to reduce using the plastics for protecting our environment although it brings no benefit and even costs more. The two examples seem opposite while in fact they are all aiming at protecting all human beings’ interests, whether in short term or in long term.

In sum, it varies a lot while in the academic, business or political area when considering the options between pragmatic and idealistic views.

Answer:  He actually was awarded it for his work on the photo-electric
effect, which is a very obvious manifestation of the quantum
nature of light (light comes in and electrons get ejected
from a material).  It was convincing prove, before quantum
mechanics had even been developed, that light is in some
sense quantized.  Of course, he is remembered for his work
on relativity and gravity, but that is what he got the Nobel
prize for.
