TOPIC: ISSUE38 - "In the age of television, reading books is not as
important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as
they can by reading books."

I fundamentally disagree the statement that it is not important to read
books as before, since people can learn as much by watching television as by
reading books before in the age of television. In my point of view, although
the television brings about great change and crucial new method to the
modern education, there is not doubt that reading books is the most
fundamental and essential way of studying for the human being.

Admittedly , owing to the invention of the television, the past century
witnessed the great progresses in the development of education in our world.
Moreover, the useful programs in the television, the long-distance courses,
and the brand new teaching method in the school , are all the great works by
the television. For instance, it is fairly easier to using the teaching
video tapes to show the exact procedure of an simulating chemical interaction  than the
teacher's explaining for hours, which is more specific and more attractive
for the students in the school.

However, compared with reading books , never does watching television
replace reading books for people to study. Significantly, reading books is
the most fundamental studying method for our people . For one thing , it is
the very way to learning ,since the human being began to account the
knowledge, legend, and story. Undoubtedly, it is more traditional,
convenient and  simple for every learner without any obstacles , while you
should have a television in advance before you decide to learn by watching
television. For another , there is no denying  that studying by reading
books gives you more room ,more choices and more ways to develop you
thinking ,questioning and analyzing abilities, for you can study with your
wonderful books in cafe, libraries, and classroom, even when you are
listening to a lecture. Unfortunately , you will never make it with your
television.  

Further more, nowadays, the majority of our knowledge is preserved in the
form of literature in our world, such as in the libraries , the university
and museum, most of which are books. Remarkably , not only studying the
former knowledge the great men / women left us before, but also developing
the new ideas and   should we learn by reading books, which is more
important than watching television that might be a excellent complementary
way of studying ,rather than to replace the reading books.  

To sum up, through the perspective of history, not only in the age of
television , but also in the age of internet , reading books still is the
main studying method for our students in our education ,such as schools ,
colleges and universities. Even for the people in the industry, they always
go to the bookstores at the street or on the internet, to buy the books they
need to learn the new knowledge. Accordingly, what I want to emphasize is
that although the television  may be a wonderful complementary method to the
modern education, reading books is definitely the most fundamental and
essential way of studying for the human being.
