65.The following appeared in a memo from the president of a chain of cheese stores located throughout the United States.

"For many years all the stores in our chain have stocked a wide variety of both domestic and imported cheeses. Last year, however, the five best-selling cheeses

at our newest store were all domestic cheddar cheeses from Wisconsin. Furthermore, a recent survey by Cheeses of the World magazine indicates an increasing
preference for domestic cheeses among its subscribers. Since our company can reduce expenses by limiting inventory, the best way to improve profits in all of our stores is to discontinue stocking many of our varieties of imported cheese and concentrate primarily on domestic cheeses."

很多年来我们的所有连锁店都储备了很多种类的国产奶酪和进口奶酪。然而去年,我们的最新店里五种销量最高的奶酪都是威斯康星出产的cheddar奶酪。而且,最近一次由

杂志所举行的调查显示,其订阅者对于国产奶酪的倾向性越来越高。由于我们公司可以通过限制库存来减少开支,在我们所有连锁店增加盈利的最好方式就是停止贮备很多进口奶酪而主要集中于国产奶酪。




The author of this editorial claims that in order to improve profits in all of their stores, the most ideal way is to discontinue stocking many of their varieties of imported cheese and concentrate just on domestic cheeses, which is surpported by the fact that last year ,the five best-selling cheeses at their newest sore were all domestic and preference for domestic cheeses are increasing. However, I think what the author asserts above is unconvincing obviously.So I will present my analysis below.

At the first place, it is absurd for the author to announce that to discountinue stocking imported cheese and concentrate only on domestic cheeses is the best way to
improve profits in all their stores. Because the author fail to provide us any information to prove that what the author asserts to do will make the profits of their own stores
increase.So without such consolidified evidence, I could hardly lend my agreement to what the author asserts.

Secondly, there is no information about that whether customers are willing to buy the domestic cheese more than then imported one. Even the author shows us that last
year,the five best-selling cheeses at the newest stores were all domestic ones, but it can not exclude the possibility that the customers who bought the domestic cheeses
have never been to the stores before for that the stores are newly opened and didn't make choice between the domestic cheeses and imported ones.

We do not know how much branched does the chain have, if newest ones just are only a few of them that just occupates a quite small proportion, and in the traditional
stores, imported cheeses are much better sold than the domestic ones, so most of our profits are still come from the selling of imported cheeses.

The argument also shows us that a recent survey by cheese of the World magazine indicates that the preference for domestic cheeses among its subuscribers are increasing. I think that the survey can not tell anything to us.Firstly, even the preference for the domestic cheese is increasing, how do we know that it is sold better and accepted
more widely than the imported ones;Secondly, whether the survey is scientific is still unknown.What methods are used?Who thesubscribers are?And do they also like the
imported cheeses?If the author wants to consolidate his assertion,he should make answers to these questions.What's more, the survey just indicates,  there is no trend and detail information about this indication.

The last leakage of the author's annlysis I want to point out is that if the author wants to improve the profits of the stores, the tastes of customers,the policies of the
management,the quality of their foods and the attitude of the employees'serving should be taken into account.

In conclusion, from the author's assertion, I find that what the author protests  basically presumptuous and  the facts presents above are not enough to persuade the
manager to take his policy into practice.So except those unconsolidified evidence, the author should provide more information including:whether the customers enjoy buying domestic cheese more than imported ones, what the customers'tastes are,and whether their serving attitude meets the satisfaction of the customers and so on.

So except those unconsolidified(不知道你要用哪个词,自己查下吧)evidence, the author should provide more information including:whether the customers enjoy buying domestic cheese more than imported ones, what the customers'tastes are,and whether their serving attitude meets the satisfaction of the customers and so on.
