Admittedly, to some extent, the non-mainstream areas and the psychic and paranormal pursuits address needs and offer some comforts in our life, which help to reach, at least in psychology, a balance while the mainstream ones cannot. One of needs is the attitude to ‘death’ which is a serious and appalling issue. The explanation of ‘death’ which is no escaping from the end of a life in scientific world, cannot satisfy people’s psychological need and even make them worried and unacceptable in some circumstances. For example, if one’s most familiar relatives passed away, he/she is more likely to believe that their spirits don’t really disperse in this world ,and they will continue a fresh and holy life in somewhere, such as paradise, or even reborn somewhere else in this world. These thoughts have a positive effect on relieving and shifting the psychological burden, which helps people still lived won’t feel lonely and be overpowered by grief.

Another need for the non-mainstream area originate from tension and anxieties when human face the uncertain future or phenomena that still can not be explained by the mainstream science. As we all know, though our science and technology are prevailing and promoted nearly every day, the future is still a untouched topic, on which human can do nothing but brief predict and give some hypothesis. When people turn to astrology, fortune-telling and then firmly believe in what they say, the threshold reason is that these paranormal areas can give them a certain and detailed answer about their future at any time. And the wish ‘catch the future of one’s own’ seems to be accomplished by the pursuit of psychic and paranormal explanations which offer a system to determine one’s whole life. For example, one’s characters can be predicted by the time he/she was born; some tragedy that you will face can be revealed in advance so as to you can avoid them by some precautions; the marital problems, such as whether the couple is mated, are involved by the explanation of constellation.

Now that there are so many advantages of astrology, fortune-telling, do the psychic and paranormal pursuits play a vital role in society? The answer is absolutely ‘No’.  This kind of pursuits, plausible as it seems to be, is based on nothing by prediction. There is still no firmly proof to support the theory of psychic and paranormal items which stems from ancient age when science was still unknown and unacceptable. Both the ‘preexistence and afterlife’ theory and astrology are extra-measures that our predecessors ‘invented’ in order to explain some phenomena that they didn’t know why. Although as it always declares, there are cases and phenomena that can be explained in the paranormal ways, yet we always ignore the very fact, that in many other circumstances, they don’t work. Perhaps it has some merits; otherwise, close at hand, it is science that can explain these mysterious and unknown problems by its ever-increasing power, which is the right and only way to explore the unknown world.

Furthermore, with these pursuit that are not rooted in reasoning and facts, more individual and social problems could be instigated. On personal level, stubborn adherence to paranormal areas could mislead person’s moods and value. For example, a person who believes that he will not be lucky could be very conservative and extremely careful in daily life, which means perhaps he will give up many good chances in the belief that he must avoid potential troubles as many as possible. From social perspectives, blind beliefs in these will bring tremendous consequences which even lead to extreme behaviors. In 1999, the coming of new millennium, many people committed suicide, some of them even in groups, in the belief that the approaching year is the doom of the whole human world.

结合昨天读的那篇5分ISSUE文章，我大改一下这篇的结构，希望能够有更好的效?/font>
1）             NON确实在某些方面满足了人们的一些要求
2）             深究人们这个原因，是因为人们对未知的恐怖和不安
3）             但这种信仰是没有根据的，确实事实证明
4）             过度的信仰还会造成很大的负面影响

So why some individuals are so addictive in these non-mainstream fields that they are often regardless of the domain status of those mainstream ones? The every answer is tension, anxiety, and fear when they face all of uncertain things, such as death, future. All topics related to these things are still problematic and untouched in scientific world, in which people can gain nothing but some brief predict and assert some hypothesis. Otherwise, when they turn to astrology, fortune-telling, at least, certain and detailed answers are available and proved in a seemingly well-round system. And some unpractical wises, such as ‘catch and control your own future’, become possible in the views of paranormal explanations. For examples, one’s characters can be predicted by the time he/she was born; some tragedy that you will face can be revealed in advance so as to you can avoid them by some precautions; the marital problems, such as whether the couple is mated, are involved by the explanation of constellation. All of these answers provide people a forceful reason to face any uncertain things.

Next, when it comes to judge the role of these paranormal ones, do they play a vital role in society? The answer is absolutely ‘No’.  This kind of pursuits, plausible as it seems to be, is based on nothing by prediction. In other words, there is still no firmly proof to support the theory of psychic and paranormal items which stems from ancient age when science was still unknown and unacceptable. These paranormal theories are extra-measures that our predecessors ‘invented’ in order to explain some phenomena that they didn’t know why. Take the born of astrology for example: our ancestors with little knowledge can not explain many things around, such as disasters, the future of a person, and then in order to find some explanations of these phenomena, they cast lights on the mysterious sky on which they can free imagine and draw some conclusions without founded reasons. In this sense, the paranormal principles are nothings but predictions and trials by ancients for the purpose of explain the unknown world.
